Everyone laughed. Brett watched his sister smile, then look at him.

“Do you know?”

“Nope,” he said and laughed when they did.

“Good for you, honey.” Jennifer smiled at JoJo.

The days passed quickly, and soon they were loading the Tahoe for the trip home. Brett carried brightly wrapped Christmas gifts to the SUV and put them in the back. They brought gifts for his family too.

“So, you’re not coming home for Christmas?” Jade asked as she hugged him.

“No, but you’re welcome to come to my place. You have to see it, Jade. It’s a beautiful home.”

“We’re going to have dinner here with Mom and Dad. But we’ll visit in the spring. I’m happy for you.” She glanced at JoJo and back at him. “She’s wonderful and loves you. I can see it. I’m so glad you’re over Diane. Bitch.”

“Hey, you used to love her.”

“Until she hurt my big brother. I hope you never hear from her.”

“You and me both, but I doubt it.” Brett hugged her.

“Be happy, Brett. You deserve it, and I think JoJo, whatever her real name is, is the one for you.” She grinned at him, making him laugh.

“I’m sure when I find out her name, she’ll swear me to secrecy. I’m sure she would have her big brother kick my ass.”

Jade laughed and stepped back. “No doubt. Please drive safely. We’ll see you soon.”

“Okay.”

Brett shook Phillip’s hand, hugged his parents, and after JoJo did the same, they got into the truck and headed home to Clifton.

The following Saturday, the bakery was busy, and JoJo groaned every time the door opened. People placed orders for cakes, cookies, and pastries for Christmas.

“What happened to people doing their baking for the holidays? My mom always made her own,” Nancy said.

“Mine too.” JoJo shook her head. “I don’t know how Sloane will get it all done.”

“Courtney and I will help. You know we do this every year.”

“I know. I’m just glad you don’t expect me to help.” JoJo grinned.

“We want people to keep coming back, JoJo,” Sloane said, laughing.

“It’s times like this I’m happy I can’t cook.” JoJo laughed.

“Does Brett know that?” Courtney tilted her head.

“He does, and he’s fine with it.”

“Of course he is. He loves you.”

JoJo smiled. “Yes, he does.”

Before closing, Brett entered the bakery. JoJo smiled when she saw him.

“Hi, can you leave yet?”
