“I’m allergic to nuts.”

“We also make it without nuts.”

“You do? Well, that’s great. I’ll take a… slice? Is that how you sell it?”

“Either way. Slice or loaf.”

“Just a slice for now.”

“Yes, sir. It will be right up.”

Their eyes met, then he moved over so the next person could place their order.

When JoJo got his slice of bread, she wrapped it in bakery tissue, and set it inside a small white box. She placed it in the white bag with pink lettering on top of the glass case.

“Sir? Here’s your order.”

He took the bag from her and moved to the cash register. He pulled his wallet from his back pocket, removed the cash, and handed it to her when JoJo told him the price.

She took the money and opened the cash register to get his change. Their eyes met again while she handed it to him. He had beautiful, dark brown eyes. His hair was dark, and she thought he could have stepped off the cover of a magazine or romance novel. She was sure she was melting.

“Thank you very much…” He looked at her name tag and then back into her eyes. “JoJo.”

Oh, Lord. If he ever whispered her name in her ear, she’d die.

“You’re welcome,” she said in a low tone.

“Is that a nickname?” He folded his strong-looking arms, leaned his hip against the counter, and smiled.

“Yes.”

He chuckled. “That’s all you’re going to say? You won’t tell me what it’s a nickname for?”

“Only privileged people know.” She smirked.

He picked up the bag. “Fair enough. I’m Brett Watkins. I just moved here from Helena, but I lived in Texas for a while.” He leaned closer. “And I hope to see you again… JoJo.” He touched the brim of his hat, smiled, then walked out the door.

She glanced around, and every woman was staring in the direction he’d gone. Damn. What a man.

“He’s new,” Sloane said from beside her.

“He said he had just moved here from Helena. His name is Brett Watkins.”

“Well, he’s gorgeous.” Sloane elbowed her. “Go for it.”

Startled, JoJo glanced at Sloane, then back at the door.

“There is no way that man would be interested in me.”

“What? Are you nuts? He’s definitely interested.” Sloane smiled.

“No. He was just being nice.” JoJo watched as Sloane folded her arms and stared at her. “What?”

“Out of the women here, customers included, he only seemed interested in you.”

“You’re crazy, Sloane. I’ll get the next customer.”

“I can take a hint. I’ll head back to the kitchen.”
