Sloane stared at her for a few seconds, then entered the kitchen. JoJo huffed out a breath and called the following number. She was having trouble concentrating, because Brett Watkins kept popping up in her head. She shook her head.

“Hey. I agree with Sloane. He’s interested in you.” Courtney touched her shoulder. “Why not go for it? Everyone got on me when I met Nevada.”

“And you didn’t believe us.”

“Of course not. It’s hard to see a man like him in love with me.”

JoJo widened her eyes. “Why? You’re beautiful, and he couldn’t keep his eyes off you—” She stopped talking when she saw the smirk on Courtney’s face.

“The same way Brett Watkins looked at you.”

JoJo shook her head. “He just seems so far out of my league.”

Courtney laughed. “The same thing I thought about Nevada.”

“Okay, I get it.” She shrugged. “I’ll probably never see him again.”

“Take him cupcakes,” Courtney said with a laugh.

JoJo burst out laughing. “I could do that. It worked for you and Nevada. The thing is, I don’t know where he lives.”

“That’s true, but maybe he’ll stop in again.”

JoJo shrugged. “I suppose we’ll find out.”

Brett crossed the street to his truck with a smile on his face. He would go back to the bakery. JoJo was the first woman to pique his interest in a long time. Her eyes were dark blue, and her wheat-colored hair was in a ponytail, and he wondered how it looked flowing around her shoulders or spread out on a pillow. He wondered if she was single.

After climbing into his truck, he opened the bag, reached inside, pulled a small box out, and opened it. He carefully picked up the slice of bread, took a bite, and groaned. It was fantastic. Yeah, he’d be going back for sure.

He glanced across the street at the bakery, checked for traffic, then pulled onto the road to head home.

Home. He hoped this was his home now. The only time he’d go to Helena was to visit his parents, and he’d left Texas in his rearview mirror when Riley moved here to Clifton. He worked for Riley as his pilot, then started designing the interior of homes that Riley bought and flipped. They became partners in the business and made a good bit of money from it.

As he drove along the road, he couldn’t help but think about JoJo. He liked her, and he didn’t even know her. He’d like to ask her out, but he had to discover if she was involved with anyone. When he stared into her eyes, it felt like someone sucker punched him, and it had been a long time since he’d felt that.

He’d been disappointed when Riley came back to Clifton and stayed. Brett flew Learjets for several businesses, but the architecture part of his life meant more to him than flying now.

Once he got back into designing, his work spoke for him, and he was constantly busy. Not that he complained. The more he worked, the more jobs he had. It had kept his mind off his ex-wife.

He grinned. If it hadn’t been for Riley coming back here, Brett wouldn’t have moved to Clifton, but he liked the small town. They are good people, for sure.

Brett drove to the driveway of his home and stopped at the mailbox. He stopped the truck, opened the door, stepped out, and walked to see if he had any mail.

Opening the mailbox, he looked inside to see it was empty. He was about to climb back into his truck when another pickup pulled in behind him. He watched as a tall man exited the vehicle and grinned at him.

“Hello,” the man said.

“Hello, can I help you?”

“No. I was driving by and saw you. I live across the road. I’m Nevada Shelton.” He put his hand out to him, and Brett shook it.

“Brett Watkins. It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Shelton.”

“Nevada, please. I don’t want to take up more time, so I’ll let you go. My driveway is about half a mile from here.” He pointed out the direction. “Stop by anytime.”

“I will. I appreciate you stopping.” Brett grinned.
