“What?”Brett reared back.

She grinned. “Gotcha.”

He tugged her close, pressed his lips to hers, then slowly lifted them.

“Yes, you do, sweetheart.” He kissed her lips deeply, slid his tongue into her mouth again, and groaned when she sucked on it.

JoJo leaned back and focused on his gaze.

“Would you like to come in?”

“Yes, but I won’t. I want to know you, JoJo, before going anything further.”

“We can talk.”

He huffed out a laugh. “If I go inside with you, I don’t want to talk.”

“All right.” She reached behind her, turned the knob, and opened the door. “I had a wonderful time, Brett.”

“I did too. Do you have plans for tomorrow night?”

“No, but I’m going to a birthday party for my father tomorrow afternoon, and I’m not sure how long I’ll be.”

“Okay. How about you call me when you know?”

“I can do that.”

“All right.” He kissed her lips again. “The store is delivering my furniture tomorrow, but after that, I’m free. They had to order a new sectional. It was supposed to be delivered earlier in the week, but since the sofa would be late, I told them to wait and bring everything at once.”

“How long have you been in the house?”

“A few weeks. I took the bedroom furniture home because I was tired of sleeping on the floor. I only had my drafting table set up.” He kissed her forehead, making her sigh. “Go inside, darlin’, and lock your door. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, Brett.” She entered the apartment, closed it, and locked the door. She leaned back against it and couldn’t keep the smile off her face.

Chapter Four

Brett smiled as he strolled back to his Tahoe, climbed in, fired it up, and drove home. He hoped to see her tomorrow night. He might invite her to his place. He’d love for her to see his home.

JoJo Flynn was a kind person, and he wanted to spend more time with her. He hoped she felt the same.

He’d been hoping to go horseback riding tomorrow with her, but since she wasn’t available, he’d go on his own once his furniture arrived from the store. He questioned Riley about riding at his place and told Brett he could come by anytime, even if no one was home.

Brett enjoyed horseback riding and planned to get a few horses. There was a stable with a corral about a hundred yards away from the house, and with the acreage, they’d have plenty of ground to run. He was glad to find it fenced.

As he drove along the dark road, he yawned. Damn, he hadn’t been out in a long time, and it showed.

“Thirty-four isn’t old,” he muttered.

After driving into the garage, he entered the house, tossed his keys onto the counter, hung his hat on a peg, and strode to his bedroom. He was tired, but even after getting into bed, he couldn’t sleep. JoJo kept running through his mind.

Closing his eyes, he thought they might spend Sunday together.

Saturday afternoon, Brett shook hands with the delivery men as they stepped onto the front porch.

“I appreciate it, guys. It finally looks like a home.”

“It’s a nice place. Take care, and let the store know if you have questions or problems,” one said.
