“But?”

“What if I think you’re a terrible kisser, or you think I am?”

“I must admit, that is the first time anyone ever asked me that.”

JoJo chuckled. “That’s the first time I’ve ever asked it.”

He grinned, then pushed the volume button up on the steering wheel.

“I miss hearing him.”

“Who? Grant…Hunter?” She tried not to laugh.

“Yeah, he was—Wait. Jessa and Grant Hunter. This Grant Hunter?” He pointed to the radio.

“The same.” JoJo giggled. “I was sure you’d get it at the restaurant.”

“It’shisrestaurant.” Brett shook his head.

She nodded. “Grant was born and raised in Clifton. After he made it big in Nashville, he built the restaurant in Hartland because he didn’t want to take customers from Connie. He’s a great guy, and I love Jessa.”

“Damn. I didn’t know that. I knew he was from Montana, but not here.”

“Sometimes, when he and Jessa go to Dewey’s, he sings with the band. Oh, and Kay O’Malley lives here too. She married Grant’s ranch manager, Landry Yates.”

“Sounds like a soap opera.”

“It does.”

“It’s a friendly town.”

Brett drove through the apartment complex and pulled into a parking spot near her unit. She stared at him. She wanted him but didn’t want to come across as being easy because she wasn’t. Brett Watkins was a whole other matter.

“I’ll get the door,” Brett said as he opened his door, then stepped out.

JoJo watched him stroll around the front of the vehicle and to her door. When he opened it, she turned on the seat, took the hand he offered, and helped her out. He didn’t let go of her hand as they walked to her door.

She was still nervous about him kissing her goodnight. They didn’t finish that conversation.

At her door, she removed her keys from her purse, and inserted the door key, then turned to look at him. He had a hand on the wall beside the door and stared at her. She watched a smirk lift his lips.

“Do I kiss you goodnight or not?” he murmured.

“Yes, please.”

He lowered his head, touched his lips to hers, and a shock ran through her. Then he lifted his lips to hover them above hers.

“More?”

“Yes.” JoJo wrapped her arms around his waist, tilted her head back, and waited.

Brett pulled her against him and pressed his lips to hers again, but this time, he slid his tongue into her mouth when she opened it. She leaned her body into his when he pulled her tight against him. JoJo was disappointed when he raised his lips. She opened her eyes and stared into his.

“About that kissing question. I think you’re a great kisser.” He murmured near her lips.

JoJo pulled back from him and bit her lip.

“Um…”
