Brett raised his eyebrow. “I didn’t think otherwise.”

She rewarded him with a beautiful smile, stood on her toes, kissed his lips, entered the bathroom, and closed the door behind her.

With a grin, he walked to the mudroom, got a few beach towels out of the dryer, and then returned to the bedroom. JoJo stepped into the room, and he wanted her again. His damn dick would betray him as he watched her lean against the doorjamb, fold her arms, as her eyes skimmed down his body.

“I thought you wanted to swim?” she asked, raising her eyebrow and inclining her head toward his dick.

“You find this funny, don’t you?”

She laughed low in her throat. “I don’t find anything funny about… that.”

Brett threw the towels to the floor, reached her in two strides, picked her up, and tossed her on the bed, making her laugh.

“We’ll swim later,” he murmured, then kissed her lips deeply.

As they lay in bed, JoJo was more than content. She knew it would be good with him. She felt this chemistry with him. She smiled as she remembered that romance novel. It was right. Great chemistry on the dance floor could mean good chemistry in bed.

“Tell me about your wife,” she murmured.

“Ex-wife,” Brett said, then blew out a breath. “Where to begin.”

“At the beginning is always good.”

Brett removed his arm from around her and scooted up against the headboard. She did the same and tucked the sheet under her arms.

“I met her when I was piloting for Riley. He hired her to help clients when he flew them to locations.” He glanced at her. “That man had projects going on everywhere, not just Texas.”

“How did you meet Riley?”

“Through a man I designed a home for. We got along immediately. So, when he asked me to work for him as a designer, I jumped at the chance.” Brett chuckled. “When he discovered I could fly, he hired me as his pilot. After a year, he offered me the chance to invest with him, and I did. I couldn’t believe the money he made, and then I was making it too. We’d buy properties, gut them, and I’d design a new interior.”

“Is that how all house flipping works?”

“No. A lot of them redecorate. We went a little further and redid the entire layout. The house didn’t look the same, and they’d sell quickly. We did it for years. Anyway, about a year after Riley hired me, he hired Diane. I fell for her the minute I saw her, and a year later, we married.”

“I never asked, but do you have children?”

“No. I wanted kids and thought Diane did too, but she kept putting it off. Maybe in a year is what she’d say anytime I brought it up.”

“She hurt you.”

“Yeah, she sure did. I came home from work a little over two years ago, and she was gone. The closets were empty, and I panicked. I tried calling her, but she wouldn’t answer. It wasn’t until later that I found the note she left in my office.” He shrugged. “She told me I was gone too much, and we never spent time together, which is a damn lie. We took a two-week vacation twice a year. Every weekend, I was home. I refused to work on weekends unless absolutely necessary.”

“That was just an excuse for her. There had to be something else.”

“Definitely. Another man is my thought.”

“But she says no?”

“Yes, but I still have a hard time believing that. Diane’s excuses were just that… excuses.”

“I agree. I’m sorry that happened, Brett. How long were you married?”

“Almost nine years.”

“I’m so sorry. Divorce can’t be easy.”
