“Anytime you meet someone, and feelings are involved, it’s scary. I was terrified when I fell for Holt, but despite the rough patches, we made it. All relationships are a wait-and-see situation.”

“I know you’re right. I suppose it’s all I can do.”

JoJo looked at Nancy. “I’m glad someone introduced you.”

“Courtney did. I have to say, that man is fine. If you’re smart, you’ll hang on to him.”

“It’s not a problem with me to hold on. It’s him holding on.”

“Oh, I don’t think you have to worry about that.” Nancy grinned. “He’s very interested in you. I’d better get back to work.”

“Me too. I don’t want the natives getting restless.” JoJo walked out to the front and helped Courtney wait on customers. Sloane had to hire someone soon, JoJo hoped.

Later that evening, as she sat on her sofa, she thought about Brett. He was constantly in her thoughts, and she wanted to spend as much time with him as possible.

She didn’t want a broken heart, but who did? It was life, and it happened whether a person wanted it to or not.

How long, though? Did JoJo need to tell him how she felt or wait for him to say something? If she told him she loved him, would he bolt?

“You’re going to get no sleep tonight,” she muttered.

Brett entered the barn the following day, saddled Viggo, and rode through the pasture.

His mind was on JoJo and how much he wanted to be with her, but he knew it was happening too fast.

“Is it?” He nudged Viggo, and the horse ran through the tall grass.

The sun beat down on his shoulders and arms. Soon, the weather would turn cold, and snow would likely appear.

Winter was one of his favorite seasons. He loved making a fire in the hearth, kicking back, and watching movies when he had to stay home because of the weather. He was sure there’d be snow here because of Clifton’s proximity to the Glacier Mountains. Helena had snow too, but being in a higher elevation, Brett knew it could snow as early as September, which was next month.

He’d been seeing JoJo for almost two months and couldn’t seem to be with her enough. The sex was great, but it wasn’t just that. It was…her.

She meant so much to him, and he was in love with her.

“But you still haven’t told her, chickenshit.”

He reined the horse to a stop beside the pond and dismounted. Then strode through the grass, sat on the bank, and stared at the water. He removed his hat, laid back, and placed it over his face.

They were going out tonight. She was taking him to the Bur Oak guest ranch in Spring City for the last dance of the season. He grinned as he remembered telling Riley about it.

“Kaitlyn and I have gone a few times. It’s always fun. Devin and Jaxon go all out.”

“I’m sure. JoJo seems excited about it.”

“Have a good time. If we didn’t have plans, we’d go too. We’ll talk soon, Brett.”

Brett was a little anxious about going. He couldn’t wait to get her on the dance floor again. She moved perfectly with him.

He removed his hat, sat up, and pulled his cellphone from his T-shirt pocket. After scrolling through it, he pushedSendwhen he saw JoJo’s number.

“Hi,” she said.

“You sound out of breath. Are you busy?”

“Extremely. What’s up?”
