Brett shook his head.

“I’ve seen some tight communities, but I don’t think any are as tight as Clifton, Spring City, and Hartland. It’s like they’re one town with different names.” He chuckled. “Did that make sense?”

“Absolutely. Pull in there.” JoJo sat up and pointed to a gravel road.

Brett nodded, pulled into a driveway with Bur Oak Guest Ranch, scrolled in iron on an arch, and drove slowly not to stir up dust.

He was looking forward to this. JoJo seemed excited about tonight.

“Where should I park?”

“Anywhere you can find.”

Brett glanced around as he drove to the lodge and parked.

“This is a great place.”

“It packs them in for sure during the summer.”

“What is the season?”

“I think mid-March to the end of August.”

“What are the accommodations?”

“There’s the lodge and several cabins,” JoJo said.

“Nice. So, now what?”

“Let’s go find a place to sit.”

“Yes, ma’am.” Brett opened his door, stepped out, and noticed she did the same. He took her hand, walked across the yard, and heard music and laughter. When they stopped at the entrance, Brett looked around and smiled.

Light bulbs dangled from the rafters, hay bales lined the walls, and tables were near the entrance. The band stage was at the back. A large parquet floor sat in front of the stage for dancing. The bar and buffet were beside the platform, and the barn smelled of hay and the aroma of mouthwatering food.

“It looks amazing.”

“I think it’s great they do this.”

They found a table and sat.

“Would you like something to drink?”

“Sure. Callahan and coke, please.”

“JoJo.”

“Jaxon.”

Brett watched her get to her feet and hug the man.

“I’m glad you could make it.”

“I wouldn’t miss it. Jaxon, this is Brett Watkins. Brett, Jaxon Callahan, part owner of the ranch.”

“Brett, it’s nice to meet you,” Jaxon Callahan said, as he put his hand for him to shake.

“You too,” Brett said, shaking Jaxon’s hand and immediately liking the man.
