At six o’clock, he drove to the house he had designed for his friend. It was a beautiful place, if he said so himself. He grinned when he saw Riley step out onto the porch, so he threw the door open and stepped from his truck.

“Hey, Riley.”

“Brett. It’s good to see you. Come on up.”

Brett strode to the steps, climbed them, and shook Riley’s hand.

“It’s good to see you too.”

“Come in.”

They entered the house, and Brett removed his cowboy hat and glanced around. He saw pegs by the door and hung his hat.

“The place looks great.”

“What can I say? I had one of the top architects in the business.”

“Hey, I just designed it. You and Katie made it a home.”

“Brett.”

He turned to see Katie Madison walking toward him. When she reached him, she wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him. She was tall with dark brown hair. Her beautiful blue eyes were the first thing a person noticed about her, then it was her beauty, and Riley was head over heels in love with her.

“Okay, that’s enough. That’s my wife you’re holding onto, Watkins.”

Brett and Katie laughed, then she walked to Riley and put her arms around his waist.

“I don’t think you have to worry about that.” Brett grinned.

“Yeah, she loves me, and I don’t know why. I’m taking my life into my own hands, loving her.” Riley chuckled. “Her big brother still scares me.”

Brett laughed. “So Sam is still protective, even though you’re married to her.”

“Hell, that’s why he scares me.”

“What do you guys want to drink?”

“I’ll have a glass of ice water, please, Katie,” Brett said.

“No coffee?” Riley asked.

“Too late for coffee for me. It would keep me up all night.” He turned to Katie. “Unless you have decaf.”

“I do. I switched to it when I was pregnant. It will just be a minute. Why don’t you two go to the living room, and I’ll bring the coffee?”

“I don’t want decaf, darlin’,” Riley said.

“Yes, I know. I’ll be right back.”

Riley grinned and shrugged when Brett smirked.

“Let’s sit down and get caught up.”

At eleven, Brett couldn’t hold back the yawn. It had been a long day, and he was tired. He got to his feet and looked at Riley.

“I’m sorry. I’m tired.”

“I’m glad you bought the house, but you can’t move in yet, can you?”
