“I’m very familiar with design architecture. It’s good to stay busy. The winters around here can be brutal.”

“I know you’re right.”

“Do you draw your plans by hand?” Lydia cocked her head.

“Yes, but I also use a computer. I enjoy drawing them myself.”

“How long does it take to complete plans?”

“For a house, about four months. It depends on what the client wants.”

“I see.”

“Do you know Riley and Katie Madison?”

“I do. Great people.”

“I designed their place.”

“Oh! That is a beautiful home.”

“I think so, too,” he said, grinning.

“Let me show you the main bedroom. I think that decides for a lot of people. If they don’t like the bedroom or kitchen, they pass. I had a client about a year ago who loved a house I showed her until she saw the kitchen.” Lydia shook her head. “It had an open design, and she wanted the kitchen separate.”

“I’ve designed houses in both styles. If you invest that much money into a home, it better be what you want.” Brett smiled.

“True.”

They entered the bedroom, and Brett grinned.

“This is great.”

French doors made up the back wall, and a fireplace sat against a wall next to a doorway. He walked to it and peered in to see an enormous bathroom.

“What do you think?” Lydia waved her hand around.

“I’ll take it.”

“Wonderful. Let’s go to the kitchen and go over the paperwork.”

“Yes, ma’am.”

Later, they sat at the bar in the kitchen, discussing payment options.

“I’ll talk with my bank, but I plan on paying half in cash.”

“I’m sure the bank would give you a mortgage if you put up half.”

“I could pay for it all in cash, but right now, I’ll do half.”

“You can always pay off the mortgage later if you prefer.” Lydia smiled at him.

“Yes. All right, let’s do this.”

“Great. We can head back to the office and fill out the paperwork.”

“Yes, ma’am.”
