JoJo nodded, but kept her eyes on Rich.
When they walked outside, JoJo kept her eyes off him. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of letting him see her upset by his presence.
“He’s just standing there,” Courtney murmured.
“I don’t want him following me.” JoJo stopped beside her vehicle.
“Does he know where you live now?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. He could have followed me sometime when I didn’t know. Shit.”
“Go to Brett’s.”
JoJo sighed. “That’s what I’ll do. I’ll call him once I get in my SUV.”
“I’ll follow you.” Courtney smiled.
“Thank you, Courtney.”
“Of course. Let’s get going.”
“Okay. Just give me a second to call Brett.”
“Sure.”
JoJo climbed into her vehicle and called him.
“Miss me already?”
“Brett—” her voice caught.
“JoJo? What is it?”
“If it’s all right with you, I’m coming there. I saw Rich across the street from the bakery, and I’m afraid he’ll follow me to my apartment.”
“He can follow you here. I’ll kick his fucking ass.”
“I’d love it. Courtney’s going to follow me. I’ll be there soon.”
“You call me if there’s any problem.”
“I will. I’m leaving now.”
“Okay, baby. I’ll see you soon.”
JoJo set her phone on the console, started the SUV, and drove to the street. She saw Courtney following in her truck. JoJo was so happy that Courtney was behind her. As she went to Brett’s, she kept glancing in the mirror, but saw no one behind Courtney. Maybe he was just trying to scare her.
“Doing a damn fine job of it, too,” she muttered.
When she pulled into Brett’s driveway, Courtney went past and blew the horn. JoJo blew the horn, drove to the house, and parked. She put her head against the steering wheel, trying to calm her nerves, but screamed when the door opened, and she saw Brett standing beside the seat.
“Come on, baby. Get inside. Did you have any trouble?”
“No. I kept watching behind Courtney, but no other cars were behind us.”
“Why is he around now?”
They walked up the steps, and Brett held the door for her. He nodded for her to enter.
