Alex opened his jacket for the man to see his badge and gun.

“We’re livestock agents, and if you know what’s good for you, you’ll stop the auction, and let us check these animals. If you have the right papers, you’ll be free to go. If not…” Alex shrugged.

The man’s eyes widened, then he turned and ran. Luke sighed.

“I’ll get him. Damn.”

Alex chuckled when Luke ran after the man, and he made his way to the main office. After letting them know who he was and what he wanted, the auction was cancelled. He was glad they’d gotten there before it started.

Two days later, he drove to Dylan’s ranch, pulling a trailer behind him. Luke sat on the passenger side.

“Looks like a nice place,” Luke said.

“Dylan inherited it from her father. He owned the best bulls for sperm and made a good deal of money doing it. When he passed, Dylan took over. After going over the files on them, I found that the ranch has thrived since she took over. She purchased another proven breeder, and the other one was sired by this bull in the trailer.”

“She should be happy then.” Luke grinned.

“I hope so. She’s so damn hardheaded.”

“She’s a woman. How could you expect otherwise?”

“Yeah, what the fuck was I thinking.” Alex chuckled. “Let’s do this.”

The men opened the doors, stepped out, walked up the steps, and knocked on the door. When it opened, Alex almost hit his knees to thank God for this woman he was falling in love with.

“Alex?”

“Dylan, this is Agent Luke McCallister. He’s been helping me with your case. We have something for you.” He grinned.

Dylan frowned, glanced at the trailer, and he knew she saw the trailer with Montana Department of Livestock on it, then back at him.

“Is that…?”

“Yes, ma’am.”

She squealed, hugged him, and ran down the steps to the back of the trailer. Alex grinned at Luke, then they followed her.

“Can you call your men to come and get him?”

“Yes. Yes, of course.”

Alex watched her call her manager. She put her phone back into her pocket and stared at the bull with tears in her eyes, then she shifted her eyes to Alex.

“Did you get the rustlers?”

“Yes, but they’re not talking yet. I’m going to talk with them once we leave here.”

“I hope they talk.”

“I do too, but right now, they’re probably too scared. Whoever had them steal your bull is probably someone they don’t want to piss off. They’re going to prison either way, but I want the man behind it.”

“You’ll get him.” Dylan smiled at him. “Was Travis involved?”

Alex shook his head. “We can’t get them to talk, so I’m not sure yet. I’ll get it from them.”

“I’m sure you will.”

“The thing is, they’re telling us they weren’t the ones who cut the fence. They had no idea what we were talking about. They said they took Toga and never looked back. I believe them.”
