“Then who cut the fence and why?”

“I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.”

“I believe that. Oh, here comes Justin.”

Alex smiled as he saw Dylan’s manager running toward them with two other men and they all had smiles on their faces. They seemed happy to have the bull back too.

Tears rolled down Dylan’s face as she watched Justin, and two ranch hands open the gate. Justin entered the trailer slowly, then unloaded the bull. She placed her hands over her mouth and cried.

When Alex’s arms wrapped around her, she clung to him as she cried.

“I knew you’d find him. I knew it,” she whispered.

“You knew more than I did then.” He chuckled.

She stared into his handsome face.

“I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

“Everything. I had no right to get angry with you about it.”

“It’s all right. We get that a lot. Right, Luke?”

Luke nodded. “If the livestock isn’t found right away, we get the brunt of the anger from ranchers and farmers.”

“You don’t deserve that. And it’s nice to meet you, Agent McCallister.”

“Yes, ma’am. You, too.” He looked at Alex. “We need to head to the office. We have tons of paperwork to go over.”

“All right. Dylan? I’ll call you later. Keep Toga close to the barns and bring the other ones closer too. Even the old bull,” Alex said as Luke walked to the truck and climbed inside the cab.

“I will. Thank you. Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome, sweetheart. I told you I’d do my best.”

“I’d kiss you, but…”

Alex grinned. “You can kiss me later. A lot.”

Dylan laughed. “I promise you, I will. Will you come over tomorrow night?”

Alex nodded. “Definitely. Have a good day.”

He touched the brim of his hat and climbed into the truck. He started it, and drove off, pulling the empty trailer behind him.

She turned to look at the bull and patted him on his big head. She laughed when Toga bawled as if happy to be home.

That evening, Dylan sat on the sofa waiting for Marlowe and Peyton. She couldn’t wait to tell them about Toga.

After they arrived and she told them the news, they raised their wine glasses and clinked them together.

“I’m so happy you got Toga back,” Marlowe said.

“Me too.”
