“Okay,” she nodded nervously.

“You’re going to do fine,” smiled Dr. Waters. “You’re as sane as anyone in this room, and I can speak to that.”

“What about you? You could be in danger after this,” she said.

“Well, that’s the lovely thing about all of this. My wife and I will be enjoying a six-week cruise around Europe when all this is done. Your team has been kind enough to give us a lift to our port via a private helicopter. My wife is very excited.” Harlow smiled, nodding at him.

Reading through the script one more time, she nodded at the others as it was fed into the teleprompter.

“Are you ready, honey?” asked Kari.

“I’m ready.”

“Okay,” nodded Ivy. “Five, four, three, two…”

“I’m so fucking nervous for her,” said Nate. He was leaning forward, his elbows on his knees as they bounced up and down. He could see the feed from the other room, but no sound was on just yet.

“She’s going to do great,” smiled Nathan. “Your mom is over there, Kari, Kat, the entire fucking legal team. She’ll be just fine. Tanner and Hiro will be submitting the questions to her from the chat room. She’ll handle this beautifully, you’ll see.”

“I can’t let anything happen to her, Dad. I just can’t.”

“I know, son. Believe me, we all know. You know that she’s safe here. She’s protected, and no one knows for sure where she is.”

“They’ll know that she’s with us after this,” said Nate. Nathan looked at his son with confusion. “Her name is Redhawk now, Dad. Harlow Redhawk.”

“Fuck.”

“Good afternoon, everyone, and thank you for allowing me to set some things straight. My name is Harlow Judge.” She hesitated a moment, then continued. “My father has made some defamatory comments regarding my sanity and abilities. Before I begin, I’d like to introduce my personal psychologist and therapist, Dr. Roger Waters. As you may know, Dr. Waters is a world-renowned psychologist and author. Dr. Waters.”

“Thank you, Harlow. I, like all of you, watched as Spencer Judge made those horrible comments regarding his own daughter. I’ve spent considerable time with Harlow at her insistence. She wanted to assure everyone of her mental and emotional competence and ability to provide information relating to her father and mother.

“After conducting a copious amount of testing, physical blood work and examinations, and multiple psychological assessments, I can assure you that Harlow is not only sane but capable, intelligent, and emotionally stable. I see no credence to her father’s claims. In fact, I can attest to the fact that she is above average on every test given.”

Off camera, Lane was reading the things coming through in the chat room. Most were simply around why her father would make such claims. It was as good a lead-in as they were going to get.

“Dr. Waters, a member of the press is asking why her father might make such claims?” said Lane.

“Without examination, I cannot determine if her father is of sound mind,” said Dr. Waters. Everyone in the room covered their mouths, hoping to conceal the laughter bubbling to the surface. “However, the thing that seems logical is that Harlow’s father was attempting to discredit her for some reason. Harlow? Perhaps you could enlighten us on this.”

“Thank you, Dr. Waters. I believe the question of my sanity and stability have been answered. Dr. Waters is correct. My father would be the one that would answer the why, but I can most assuredly give you some possible reasons.

“As you are aware, my parents’ home was burned to the ground recently. I feel certain that this was an attempt by them to gain sympathy and hide their nefarious plans against the United States of America.

“Both of my parents were extremely close to Chief Justice Morrison. In fact, as you will see from the documents you are about to review, they have been in collusion with one another since high school. I present the first exhibit, previously sealed. I want to make one thing perfectly clear. I found these documents in my parents’ home. I’ve been collecting the documents for some time now, hoping to eventually take them to my godfather, Justice Morrison.

“When I discovered Justice Morrison’s involvement, I knew that I had to find help elsewhere. As you can see by this document, my father and Seth Morrison were involved in the abduction and murder of a young woman more than forty years ago. Although the police reports do not reveal that information, I give to you the pages from a diary kept by my father.”

Page after page, Harlow placed up for the screen, explaining everything that was found. She tore down her father, her mother, and Morrison. She had no evidence against the president, but twice she eluded to the fact that he was getting help from someone high up in the government.

When the military documents for the team were placed up for the screen, photos and names were blacked out. She explained that Morrison coerced someone in the NSA to find the documents, then hired criminals from Mexico and Russia to kill the men.

“Why, you may ask? That’s simple. The bill put forth before the Court at this time to force privately held weapons manufacturers to relinquish control of their businesses and hand them over to the government. Many of these manufacturers in the U.S. are run or owned by former service members. Individuals who have risked their lives for our nation and now help to produce superior weapons for our own country and its allies.

“For many of you, you’re wondering why the government would want control of this. If they have control, they can determine who can and cannot buy the weapons. I ask you, America, is this a good idea? Do you want your rights stripped from you? Do you want our nation selling weapons to other nations, or worse, using those weapons to hold other nations hostage?

“I can assure you all that my father wants exactly that.”

As the questions poured into the chat room, Lane did her best to get to the most pertinent. She read one of the lines, paused, and reread.
