I felt Saint’s hand wrap tighter around my waist, but I wasn’t sure if it was in warning, comfort, or possessiveness. This entire exchange was beginning to feel weird. Right now, I had no idea if Marilyn was being rude or ifwewere the ones being rude.

Trying to salvage this disaster, Saint said, “She was just asking because her mother’s single, but we just know that she’d love to experience a place like this. Even if you do cater to couples only, the scenery really would benefit anyone that’s trying to regroup from life.”

Marilyn got back to smiling in that strange way of hers. “Oh, yes,” she gushed. “We get lots of people asking the same thing. This place really is special. We do our best to make sure everyone finds what they need here.”

“Uhm…yeah, so…is that all?” Cree asked. “It’s been a long drive.”

Marilyn blinked her brown eyes at him, then snapped out of whatever she had going on in that brain of hers. “I’m so sorry.” She shook her head. “I got completely sidetracked.”

Cree smiled at her. “It’s okay,” he replied graciously. “It happens to all of us.”

The next few minutes were spent with Marilyn checking Trevor in, and we all waited patiently for her to hand him the keys to his room. While Marilyn wasn’t ancient, there was no sense in making her escort us to our rooms, then come back and have to escort Trevor to his. Things still felt a bit awkward, so I was all for whatever would smooth things over.

As we made our way towards our room, I saw that the retreat was designed like most motel buildings. You could see a pool, gazebo, barbecue pit, jacuzzi, and fire pit running down the center of the courtyard with the rooms on either side, caging everything in. While Marilyn had said there were only five cabins available at the retreat, there were actually six, though the sixth one looked rather bare. The other five cabins had identifiers on them, but the most impressive thing was their size. They looked like they were the size of a small apartment, and that had me curious as to what they looked like inside.

The cabins were encased in a sea of trees as far as the eye could see. Every shade of green that you could think of made up the beautiful scenery. At the end of the courtyard, you could see an arch that led to somewhere, but I could always explore that later. While I had no desire to get lost in the beautiful greenery beyond, I still wanted to see a little bit of what surrounded us.

With our rooms on the right side, Trevor’s room was across the way, but at the very end. I wasn’t sure if Marilyn had given him that room to give him some extra privacy or not, but he was definitely going to be able to get some sleep over there by himself. With about fifty feet between each cabin, there was enough privacy provided for everyone. Not to mention that the spaces in between each cabin were decorated with huge planters. The retreat really was beautiful and peaceful looking.

The Lovers Room was the first one on the right, so Cree and Lulee immediately when inside, leaving me and Saint to make our way to the room next door. While things were going to feel super awkward once we got inside, it couldn’t be helped. Plus, Saint and I really needed to have a talk.

Because Saint had been carrying all the bags, Marilyn had given me the key. So, pushing the door open to our room, I let out a low whistle as we walked inside.

“Holy shit,” Saint whispered behind me. “This place is crazy.”

He wasn’t wrong. The room looked like a high-roller suite at any one of the casinos that you’d find in Las Vegas. There was a huge sitting room with a million-inch television bolted on the wall, matching furniture, and live plants scattered about. The bed and dressers were located directly behind the seating area, one step above the floor level. The bed also looked to be a California King, and it looked comfortable as hell.

Dropping my purse on the couch, I walked over to the dividing partition, and behind it was an honest-to-goodness kitchenette. “It comes with a kitchen,” I stated absently.

“Where?” Saint asked.

“Behind this wall,” I told him.

“No way,” he muttered, coming up behind me. “What’s this?”

We both looked down, and before I could take a guess, Saint was stepping on the dark grey disc on the floor, and we both looked up when the dividing partition started to roll into itself, making the kitchenette visible to the rest of the room.

“Wow.”

“Is it just me, or is this place a lot fancier than I gave Marilyn Clark credit for in my head?” I asked.

“Nope, it is,” Saint agreed.

“This place had to cost Lulee a fortune,” I said, shaking my head.

“According to her, it’s actually not that expensive,” he replied. “Supposedly, they believe in what they’re doing here, so the rooms are reasonable.”

“Believe in what they’re doing here?”

“Helping couples reconnect,” he elaborated.

I turned to look up at him, and he was staring down at me with those deep brown eyes of his, and it was just too easy to get lost in them. I bet they were hypnotizing when they were looking down at you as Saint owned your body.

“Oh, God,” I rushed out. “I wonder what the bathroom looks like.”

I raced off towards the bathroom before I did something stupid like kiss Saint Hendrix.
