“Marilyn and her son,” she answered. “I heard them talking about how much longer Richard could distract you guys.”

“Let’s call the police, then get the fuck out of here,” I ordered.

Verity pulled out of my arms. “What about the car?”

“Fuck.”

“What?” Cree asked.

“They fucked with the car,” I told him. “Pulled some of the hoses free.”

“What about Trevor’s car?” Verity asked. “I mean, his car has to be somewhere around here, right?”

“Who gives a fuck about a car?” Lulee cried out. “Let’s just start running.”

“She’s right,” Verity agreed. “We just need to get out of here.”

I nodded because they were both right. “Okay…uhm…” I shook my head, trying to gather my thoughts. “We just need to get far enough away to pick up reception.”

“They have a gun,” Lulee announced. “It was how they managed to tie me up, and I don’t think it’s their only one.”

Verity grabbed my shirt. “Are we really going to leave Sarah, Saint?”

My entire body sagged with regret. “Baby, we can’t save her and you two at the same time,” I answered ruefully. “You heard Lulee, Verity. They have guns.”

“Wait,” Lulee said. “They have Sarah?”

I nodded. “Marilyn and Donovan have her in the maintenance shed.”

“We can’t just leave her!” Lulee shouted. “Try dialing 911, Verity!”

“The fuck we can’t,” Cree argued. “Lulee, if Marilyn and Donovan have Sarah, then it’s safe to say that Richard has probably already killed Kevin.” Cree grabbed her by her arm. “I’m sorry for that girl. I swear to God, I am. But we are not doing this. She is not more important to me thanyou.”

“That’s easy to say when it’s notyouthat’s being abused and tortured,” she fired back, and I’d had enough.

“Now is not the time for your fucking feminism bullshit, Lulee,” I hissed. “These people are trying to kill us. What don’t you get about that?” Shaking my head, I turned towards Cree. “I’m getting Verity the fuck out of here, Cree. I can’t tell you what to do with Lulee.”

Cree turned back towards Lulee. “Run on your own two feet, or else I’m carrying you over my shoulder, Lulee. Those are your choices.”

Before she could answer, the door to the storage room flew opened, officially making us the stupidest fucking people on the planet. We should have run as soon as we’d freed Lulee, instead of arguing like fucking fools.

“Well, this is unexpected,” Marilyn stated evenly as I pushed Verity behind me, Cree automatically stepping in front of Lulee.

“This isn’t right, Momma,” Donovan said, though that didn’t stop him from aiming his gun our way.

“Certainly regretful,” Marilyn agreed on a sigh. “However, I can’t see how there’s getting any out of this now, Donovan. We’ll just have to ask God for forgiveness on Sunday.”

What the fuck?

Before I could ask that very question, Richard Clark was pushing through the door, pulling Kevin Meyers’ body behind him. I felt Verity’s hands tangle in my shirt as she stood behind me. No one said a word as Richard dumped Kevin’s body next to Trevor’s like it was nothing.

Straightening, Richard scowled as he looked around the room. “I thought you two gentlemen were still searching the trees,” he remarked casually. “If I’d known all this, I would have just gutted Kevin in the forest and left him there.” He shook his head as he let out a deep sigh. “It wasn’t easy to drag him all the way back here.”

“Well, we can feed him and Sarah to next week’s guest, and that should take care of that,” Marilyn said in a tone that conveyed just how fucking crazy these people were.

“Oh, God…” I turned just in time to see Verity throw up everywhere,

“Oh, honey,” Richard cooed. “See that, Mary? You made the poor girl sick.”
