But her story was like a fairy tale.

And you didn’t call the princess back to her old, crappy stomping grounds after she got away.

Louise had been one of the few who’d escaped and rid the stench of this place off her. I wasn’t going to be the one to make her come back just to help me and my family out.

So, other than Giselle, I really had no one.

“Are you serious? You’ll look after everyone for me while I’m gone?” I asked hugging her even tighter.

“Yeah, of course I will. You knew that before you even asked.” She laughed as she squeezed me back.

And, she was right.

I knew Giselle would come through for me.

For us.

“Do you want me to help you move the baby’s crib over here? You can put it in my room,” I suggested as I let her go and stood up, ready to continue packing.

“Nah, I’ll just use the portable crib. Leave me the numbers for where you’ll be, though. Just in case.”

I nodded and my stomach twisted up as I thought about all the “just in cases” that could possibly happen.

And probably would.

Idouble-checked the address that Nick had given me with the address that showed on my screen.

And on the huge ass mansion in front of me.

Then I triple-checked.

When I confirmed that this was the correct address, the butterflies in my stomach started going even crazier than before.

“Holy cow,” I said under my breath as I stared in wonder at the gigantic, three-story, golden brick house. The roof and trim were a dark black color that really complimented the light exterior.

I didn’t know much about houses, but this one cost a load of cash.

After I parked in the driveway, I grabbed my sad-looking suitcase and jumped out of the car. As I moseyed up the long walkway to the steps, I thought about how many times I’d be able to fit our house inside of this one.

I estimated about a dozen.

At least.

The long driveway continued through a cut-out archway where the house extended to the side. From here, I could see a three-car garage in the backyard.

I was pretty sure the garage was twice as big as my house.

Walking up the first set of steps, I let out a nervous giggle to myself. The size of this place was insane. And I’d get to spend a whole month here.

There were trees and greenery around me, but to be honest, the complete grandeur of the house had stolen every bit of my attention.

When I arrived at the door, I took a deep, cleansing breath before I knocked.

Almost immediately, the door swung open. “Miss Cherry?” the tall, skinny man asked while he stepped to the side. He wore a suit and he bowed to me slightly as I entered.
