I just couldn’t get enough.

“Eve, roll over for me, please,” he asked, encouraging me with his hands.

I did exactly what he said, and we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of the morning.

Eve

“Well, it sure sounded like you had a good morning,” Giselle said, teasing me as she packed up the rest of her stuff. I’d called her over a couple hours after Nick left.

I’d intended to call her right away, but I napped before I jumped into the shower.

Nick had been especially—active.

Not that I minded.

I loved how my muscles twinged, reminding me how they’d been overworked.

“You could hear us from your house?” I asked with a frown while I folded a basket of laundry.

“I think the whole neighborhood could hear.” She smirked and shimmied her hips. “But I used my key and came in near the end of the first half,” she said, waggling her eyebrows in a ridiculous manner.

I laughed and swatted her with the end of a towel. “I didn’t know he was coming inside. I’d said goodbye to him in the car. And then before I knew it—he was slamming the door shut behind me.” I shrugged and finished folding the towel.

“I saw his car leave after lunch. How’d you guys leave things?”

My heart sank. “I made us tomato soup and sandwiches. Then he kissed the crap out of me before he ran off to work.” His kiss had held so much emotion—my eyes had gotten teary.

A real goodbye kiss.

“So, he’s picking you up later, or what?” she asked, staring right at me with her mouth slightly open.

I shook my head. “Nope, we’re done. It’s time to get back to real life. Actually,” I said, pulling my phone off the coffee table, “I have to figure out how much to refund him. He paid me for the first week, but I didn’t stay for that long.”

After plugging in a few numbers, I came up with what I thought was a fair number.

I wouldn’t charge him for today since I was only there for the first five hours.

Even though he’d woken me up a few times during those hours, it wasn’t fair to him to pay for the other nineteen hours I was a burden on him.

Considering the amount he was paying the lawyer, I should probably return the whole shebang back to him.

Crap.

I really needed that money.

Like, really, really needed that money.

Part of it was going toward the house taxes that I’d already flagged it for.

The reason that Asher did what he did.

I should have told him that being late with the taxes wasn’t that big of a deal. I was going to pay it, I’d just gotten caught up with Nick’s birthday surprise.

And now the big dummy was in jail because of it.

I texted Nick. “I’m returning the amount you paid. I know it won’t make a dent in what I’ll owe you for the lawyer, but at least it’s something.” I sent the text and set my phone on the table.
