She blinked at me shyly and went back to her hot dog. “Have you heard anything from Len?”

“He thinks Asher will be on the docket today for sure. When he calls, I’ll have Langcaster take you home to meet him.” At least that was what I assumed she’d want to do.

“Thanks, that would be great.” She turned to me and asked, “Where are you taking me? I told Cheryl I’d be back in an hour.”

Cheryl was the supervisor I’d left her with. I hoped she’d ease Eve into whatever area seemed like the best fit.

I gave her a few suggestions, but she’d figure it out.

“And I told Cheryl I was taking you on a fieldtrip.”

She shook her head and continued eating.

When we’d arrived, Eve said, “Why are we here?”

“There’s one condition to you working for me,” I told her while I wiped my fingers on the thin napkins the vendor had provided.

“What are you talking about?” Her voice was quiet, and she sounded unsure.

“You need to finish your degree.”

Eve glanced up at me, looking completely stunned. “But—what do you mean?”

I grabbed her hand in mine. “I mean that while you work for me, you’ll also need to juggle classes. At your own pace. There’s no rush for you to finish. However, you will finish.” I brought her hand to my lips and kissed the back of it.

“If that means you need to leave during the workday for a class, then so be it. We’ll work our schedule around yours,” I said, letting go of her hand and undoing my seat belt. “Now, let’s go see what classes they still have open.”

My life had changed on a dime, and I couldn’t remember ever being happier.

Somehow, Nick had pulled some strings and enrolled me at the college—even though the semester had already started.

My first class was fantastic.

And so were all the other ones.

I only had class twice a week, so it really didn’t interfere with my job.

Cheryl, my boss, was really nice.

Probably due to the fact that I was her boss’ girlfriend.

I couldn’t say that anyone besides Cheryl had been all that friendly. But that’s what you get when you’re banging the boss, I guess.

Anyway, I was still finding my way around the office. Cheryl had placed me in a few different areas to see what I liked best.

First, I spent a week filing. Which was okay, but boring as heck.

Then I went to accounting for a while. That was interesting, but I don’t think they really needed my help.

Now, I was back in admin, but more on the customer service, acquisitions end of things.

This I found fun.

My boss and coworkers here were responsible for spotting and then acquiring new real estate that was for sale.
