Fuck.

This means Tim did see me. Now I have no choice but to address him. I must be the quintessential ex-girlfriend who can’t catch a break after being dumped repeatedly.

Sucking in a deep breath, I plaster on fake joy. “Tim,” I say, acting surprised. “Hi. Ah, how are you?”

I realize my heart is racing and I’m starting to panic. Tim eyes the length of me. I shoot a fleeting look at the woman next to him. She’s naturally gorgeous, and pint-size. It boggles my mind how Tim has a date and I can’t seem to land one. I’m seriously beginning to question my capabilities.

“I thought that was you when I walked in. You look nice. Real good.”

I flatten my lips into a thin smile. “Thanks.”

Am I supposed to say you too? Because I don’t want to compliment him. After all, this is the guy who left me to go find better.

I’m still salty.

“You’re so dressed up,” he begins, and my stomach drops.

Leo whispers in my ear for me to play along before he reaches around behind me.

“I’m Leo, Trista’s boyfriend,” he says, and I can’t stop the shocked expression from filling my face. Leo puts his hand out to shake Tim’s. Heat blossoms the bridge of my nose. Even my neck is burning. Tim looks at me oddly then places his hand in Leo’s.

This is what Leo meant when he said he’d be my wingman.

He’s going to play my boyfriend.

I look at Leo’s side profile. At least it won’t be hard pretending I find him attractive, because I already do.

“Nice to meet you,” Tim says hesitantly.

Leo sits back down and places his palm on my hip affectionally. “We had dinner reservations, but the restaurant overbooked. We decided to skip eating and came here for drinks instead.”

Tim nods then moves his date to the open seats.

I turn toward Leo and mouth, “Thank you.” He nods in understanding. I’m thankful Tim doesn’t know the truth. It would make me feel even lower.

Without thinking, I lean forward to give Leo a kiss as a thank-you. His lips are cool and taste tart, and it’s what makes me realize what I’m doing all too late. I try to pull back, but he doesn’t let me. Leo palms the back of my head and smushes our lips together. He allows just enough space to slip his tongue into my mouth to tangle with mine. Lust pools in my pussy, and my body illuminates with desire. Just as fast as it starts, it’s over.

Leo slides another shot over, and I take it without hesitation. He chuckles quietly. It burns going down and I welcome it.

“Want to share a cigarette?” he asks.

I nod immediately. After my ex walked into Uncle Joe’s, and me kissing Leo, tequila doesn’t seem strong enough for the job.

“If you’re not into one-night stands, I bet you don’t kiss on the first date either,” Leo says.

ChapterThree

Trista

Leo’s question causes me to question myself.

I was with Tim for three years. Before that, I was in college and that didn’t count. Everyone fucked everyone then.

I’m not sure what I don’t do on dates. Was I into one-night stands and kissing? Or was I not? Leaning closer, I turn my entire body to face him.

“I’m not sure what I do on dates. Tim was my first real boyfriend, and we happened out of college by accident.”

A cigarette dangles between his lips. Leo cups the end to light it and then pulls in a drag. Veins protrude down the column of his neck. It makes me wonder how old he is.
