“The problem isn’t in cycle.”

“I know. From what I’ve been able to find out about him—which isn’t much, and that’s usually a bad sign because it means the military did very unethical things to him, and they don’t want to be sued or have bad publicity—he is just about as docile as a submissive can be. And I don’t think that changes a lot whether he’s in or out of cycle.”

“Okay,” Sam says, sounding calm even though the phrase “docile as a submissive can be” jolted through him like a bullet.

“That might be a cause for concern if he was with a lower-level Dominant because they might not be able to satisfy him outside of his cycle, but your needs are fairly high outside of your cycle. I think that will suit him well. Caging, free use, barbing, and knotting. He needs an intense sexual dynamic that will take a fair amount of his time and energy.”

“I think I can do that.”

Robert narrows his gaze. “You should use him twice a day,” he says as if it’s a series of chores rather than intimacy. “Your first sexual act of the day should be early, should be intense, and he should be able to feel twinges of your lovemaking for at least a few hours. You’ll want to experiment with plugging, but be careful with spanking. I am not convinced his temperament lends itself to spanking. He might internalize it as punishment. I think he’ll view caging as a reward, as romantic, as a sign that he is valued, and that he’ll find comfort in that control. But you’ll know for sure after you barb him. If he gets barbed and wants it again, then we’ll really have information to work with.”

“We?”

Robert rolls his eyes. “As your friend and his. The expert ‘we.’”

“I hear you’re dating a Dominant,” Sam says because he’s been meaning to ask.

He frowns. “Yeah, it was going pretty well, but he just got transferred, so we’ll see.”

“You’re both Dominants,” Sam comments, and can’t believe he even has to say it. Who does that? Sam didn’t even know it was possible.

Robert shrugs. “He’s fun and liked the idea of a challenge. So did I,” he says as if it isn’t a big deal. “Back to your boy. You’ll try a Daddy/boy dynamic, won’t you?”

Sam’s suddenly run out of patience. “I’ll take care of him.”

Robert holds up a hand. “We’re almost done here, and then you can go to him. I just want you to follow your instincts. After all he’s been through, he deserves to be wanted aggressively. His request to be given to a Dominant at the end of his service is very unusual.”

“Do you even have instincts?” Sam asks, and then realizes how insulting the question must be.

Robert laughs because he’s hard to offend, which is annoying. “Of course. They just usually tell me that the best thing to do is make sure everyone is as calm and happy as possible.”

“So, like, what is satisfying, then? How do you get satisfied?”

He shrugs. “Going home to my parents and siblings, making sure they’re okay. Helping my friends and co-workers.”

“So you don’t have a cycle? Fuck, just ignore me.”

“I really don’t mind,” he says easily. The man is such a ridiculously high Dominant, but people can barely feel it most of the time. “And no, I don’t usually have a cycle. I mean, I do, but I can channel it into productive things. I usually take a few missions when I’m on my cycle. Mixed missions with subs and Doms, and then I can… well, it evens out.”

Sam would ask more questions, but honestly, his dick is throbbing because he’s so desperate to get to Craig. He shifts in his chair.

Robert notices. His brows rise.

Sam shivers, suddenly cold, and the hairs on his arm lift. “Stop that.”

“We have to talk, and we can’t do that if you’re too busy thinking of barbing your submissive.”

He grunts at the thought, but the pulse of Robert’s calming dominance has made it easier to think and wait a bit longer.

“How much resistance will I get if I put in a claim for him?”

“None. His service is complete, and he was marked KIA. He’s been given the mandatory pitch that he could put his cycle into the submissive pool, and he was very resistant to that. That should be the end of it unless he decides he doesn’t want to see you anymore.”

It’s a relief. Sam sits back in his chair. “How is your family?” he asks because it’s been a while since he and Robert have caught up.

Robert laughs. “They are fine, thank you for asking.”

“What? Why are you laughing at me?”
