“Anytime,” he replies, his eyes never leaving mine. “Now come on, let’s see what else this place has to offer.”

As we rejoin the group and continue exploring the amusement park, I can’t help but feel a growing sense of excitement.

The aroma of freshly fried dough and powdered sugar wafts through the air, drawing our group to the funnel cake stand like moths to a flame. A chorus of excited chatter fills my ears as the kids eagerly discuss their favorite toppings.

“Can we get extra whipped cream? And sprinkles?” Peter asks, eyes wide with anticipation.

“Of course!” I reply, smiling at his enthusiasm.

“Is there any way to add chocolate sauce, too?” Hudson chimes in, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “I mean, might as well go all out, right?”

“Absolutely,” Benedict agrees, joining in on the fun. “Let’s make it the ultimate funnel cake experience.”

As we wait for our scrumptious creations, I can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie with these men—an unexpected, yet pleasant, surprise. But beneath the surface, my heart races with thoughts of the roller coaster ride and that electrifying kiss. It’s becoming increasingly difficult to pretend everything is normal when my body yearns for Hudson’s touch, and my mind is consumed by the mere thought of him.

“Here you go, everyone! Dig in!” Benedict announces, passing around plates piled high with funnel cakes smothered in whipped cream, sprinkles, and chocolate sauce.

“Yum! This looks amazing!” Peter exclaims, diving into his dessert.

We all dig in, laughter and playful teasing filling the air as we indulge in the heavenly treat. Soon enough, the last bits of funnel cake disappear, leaving us all with content smiles and full bellies.

“Alright, who’s ready for some games?” Benedict suggests, scanning the nearby attractions.

“Me!” the kids shout in unison, their sugar-fueled energy levels surging.

“Lead the way,” Hudson says, gesturing for Benedict to take charge.

“Come on, Harper,” Benedict calls. “Let’s win some prizes!”

I approach the first game, a classic ring toss, and survey the colorful array of bottles before me. With a deep breath, I grip the first ring and let it fly. It arcs through the air, teasingly circling a bottle before clattering to the ground.

“Oof, tough luck,” the attendant chuckles. “Wanna try again?”

“Sure,” I reply, forcing a smile as I hand over another token. I can feel Hudson’s eyes on me, sending shivers down my spine and igniting a stubborn flame within. But despite my determination, the next few rings yield similar results.

“Maybe this just isn’t your game,” the attendant suggests.

“Maybe not,” I agree, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

“Let her try something else,” Benedict says, his voice laced with amusement. “Come on, Harper. Let’s see if you have better luck with the balloon darts.”

“Watch and learn,” I retort playfully, trying to hide my growing frustration.

But as I take aim at the strategically placed balloons, the dart slips from my grasp, bursting only the tiniest of targets.

“Oops,” I mumble, cringing as the kids giggle behind me. “Well, that was…something.”

“Indeed.” Hudson smirks, his eyes glinting with mischief. “Shall we move on?”

“Absolutely,” I huff, determined to find a game where my skills will finally shine.

Yet, as we meander through the crowded lanes, each game proves more challenging than the last. My frustrated sighs become a chorus, harmonizing with the sounds of my relentless failures.

“Alright,” Benedict announces suddenly, clapping his hands together. “Enough is enough. Time for me to take over.”

We watch in awe as he saunters up to the basketball shoot, effortlessly sinking shot after shot. Prizes pile up around him, and the attendant looks both impressed and dismayed.

“Here you go, everyone,” Benedict grins, handing out the spoils of his victory. When he offers a stuffed bear to Hudson, though, Hudson raises an eyebrow and holds up his hands in protest.
