Fates, he wanted her. Blair was his and he would never let her go. As the dizzying sensation of blood loss swarmed his vision and made him feel heavy, he felt his muscles relax and his mind grow hazy. He’d donated blood far too many times in the last two days to not feel the consequences.

But even as weakness invaded his senses, Kaien was under no pretense. When Blair came back to herself, she’d hate him just the same.

Chapter Twelve

Blair’ssanitycamebackto her in a delicious rush. A rush in the form of savory sweet blood that only further piqued her appetite and beckoned her to drink more.

Kaien’s blood.Again.

She jerked backward, retreating from his neck to find herself locked in his embrace. Their bodies entwined together. On the couch.

Halfway-closed eyes framed a complexion that was far too pale. Though he looked quite pleased, Blair knew he would be dangerously close to losing consciousness. With a start, her hands went to his face, slapping his cheek in an effort to rouse him.

“Kaien!”

“Kitten.” Eyes closing, his blue-tinged lips turned up in a seductively sexy lopsided smile as the words slurred on his tongue. “Glad you’re okay.”

He’d lost far too much blood, and Blair couldn’t do anything to heal him. “Kaien, snap out of it.”

Delicately cupping his clammy face with one hand, she frowned. Clambering onto her forearms, she hovered over him and attempted to lift off his chilled body. But when she reared back, she found herself trapped, his tautly muscled arms refusing to loosen from around her waist, her lower half nestled against his.

Biting her lip, Blair sucked in a breath. The compromising embrace in which she found herself ignited a traitorous fire beneath her skin, desire scorching through her veins. But instead of withdrawing, she found herself snuggling back into his frame to warm him.

Yeah, keep him warm. Lies do not become us, Blair.

Almost chuckling at her own thoughts, she sighed contentedly. Cheek to cheek, Blair closed her eyes and simply enjoyed the embrace of the male below her. The subtle yet steady beat of his heart, the tickle of his breath atop the tendrils of her hair. The invigorating scent that clung to his skin.

In his arms, she felt safe.

When she’d woken to the sounds of a tussle outside, she’d felt dread pitting in her stomach at the thought of Kaien alone and defenseless without his abilities.

Everything in her had revolted at the thought of him being wounded, or worse, killed. Roaring like a freight train, the predator that lived in her became insane with anger. A red haze of hostility had clouded her rational mind before she’d even darted into the middle of the assault.

All because the Raeth had picked a fight with two wolves.

Hand fisting in the short strands of his golden hair, Blair released him to rise to her forearms. Kaien’s irises were half covered by drooping eyelids, his silly smile still in place as he sighed contentedly.

She couldn’t remember the last time she’d seen a genuine smile grace his attractive features for longer than a moment. Regardless of the fact that blood loss certainly played a factor in its reveal, she’d accept it. Her chest grew tight, an indecipherable emotion tugging at her heart.

Before she thought better of it, she gingerly lowered her lips to his. Tender, the contact was a spark that promised fire, an ignition of the undeniable chemistry between them.

Kaien’s chilled lips followed hers, the masculine groan that rumbled from his throat enticing her. Disregarding the warning that lingered in her mind, Blair devoured him. She claimed his mouth and deepened the connection of the hypersensitive flesh, desperate for him in a way that she’d never experienced before.

For a woman who’d sampled the pleasures of life—abundantly—it was an intoxicating feeling.

Ferocious with the electricity that pulsed between them, Blair’s incisors lengthened before she scraped them along the stubble of his chin. Kaien shivered below her and the predator under her skin smiled at his casual display of intimacy. Nipping the strong line of his jaw, Blair recaptured his lips with a spellbinding passion.

The bond between them prickled with a new awareness, tingling along her spine. With Kaien’s loosened grip on reality, she began to sense Kaien’s freely flowing emotions: passion, desire, love.

Kaienlovedher.

***

Sleep was a relatively inane concept for a vampire. Though their eyes closed, and their consciousness faded under the unassailable blanket of the sun, there was comparatively little that could impact or disrupt the action.

In all her years, Blair could never remember a day of sleep that’d been as soothingly invigorating as the one she’d spent locked in his sensual embrace. She couldn’t tell where she ended and he began.

Nestled together. Legs intertwined. Breaths mingling.
