Brushing his hair back he exhaled and locked eyes with Margaret, “Was Juniper pregnant?”

Her eyes grew as her forehead crinkled, "Wolfgang, that is confidential information.”

“Aren’t we struggling to repopulate the island? And where was my say in this?” He paced the room.

“Wolfgang, I understand your anger but we couldn’t send someone back with a child, with no clue who the father is.”

“You could have had a surrogate, I've seen you do it before.” His voice heightened.

"I'm sorry Wolfgang, the surrogate list was empty. Can we make it up to you?” She didn't look at him.

"Margaret, nothing will fix this.” he sat across from her.

She grabbed a tissue, dabbed her eye and Wolfgang's heart sank. He hated seeing Margaret cry, she was like an aunt or grandmother to him. He's known her his whole life. He stood, circled her desk and pulled her up to him. "Margaret, don’t."

She sniffed, "I hate that I instructed it to be done. Can I doanythingto help you?"

He thought for a moment and sat her back down, “Yes.”

Juniper

Wolfgang had messaged Juniper earlier that day asking her to go out tonight. She had come home showered, gotten ready and was waiting for him. She sat on their couch, reflecting on everything they've been through until now. She was happy, she was safe and she was back on her healing journey. The roar of the motorcycle grew outside.

He had turned that in to his daily driver and passed the Jeep over to Juniper. The front door beeped and opened with Wolfgang stepping in with a new bundle of flowers.

She stood to greet him. "Hey, beautiful," he leaned down and kissed her while pulling her in by the waist.

"Let me freshen up and we can go." She pulled the bouquet from his hands as he walked to the room, "I was thinking of dinner, just us two."

"That sounds good." She turned to put the flowers in the vase.

Wolfgang held the door open for Juniper as she stepped outside of the restaurant, "I want to go up to our spot." He called behind her.

June smiled at him, "Okay, but I'm driving this time."

"Shit." He mumbled with a smirk as he held her door open. She stopped to look at his new tattoo healed, a juniper twig with berries on the inside of his forearm and he closed the driver door, getting in on the passenger side shortly after. Down the road Juniper peeled the Jeep off the asphalt and on the dirt path. No wonder he drove like that, this was fun. She pulled up to the clearing and put the vehicle in park.

"That was not as bad as I thought it was going to be." He opened his door and sped for hers helping her out. She set both feet on the ground and Wolfie mirrored her, holding her arms comforting her. "I found something out today and it's going to be a lot to take in, so bear with me.” He sighed, “I looked up your file today and I feel like you should know this. Before you left the island, you were pregnant."

June's face pushed back, tightening, momentarily speechless, “What?”

"They terminated your pregnancy before you left."

"What?" she was shocked.

"June, you were pregnant before you left in May." He repeated himself.

She looked for an answer in his eyes, “How do you know?”

“Old habits are hard to kill, I looked up your file to update information and saw one of your notes. The week you were still on the island, unconscious, they aborted our baby.”

June’s eyes glistened, "Are you serious? I didn't think I could have kids. Is she allowed to do that?"

“Yes, I’m sorry,” He kissed her hand, "Well," the corner of his mouth rose, "seems like that ex of yours was also shooting blanks, thank god."

She began putting pieces together, “That’s why my period came back.”
