June looked at the clock, thirty minutes. “Are you grilling?” She handed Wolfie some tongs, “Since it was your idea to have it here.”

“Yes, I can grill.” He grabbed them and followed June into the backyard. She turned to him as the door closed, “Is it lit?”

“I don’t know,” She didn’t really care about the barbecue, “Did you hear back from Margaret yet?”

Wolfie sighed, “Yes, she said Jay and herself would look into it and if you need to, she said you could call her too.” June rolled her eyes again. “Quit with that, what’s going on?” He closed the lid to the barbecue and faced her.

“I’m just tired and irritated, I’ve been sleeping terribly all month." She looked up in his green eyes, "Sleeping at your house does help.”

“Just relax.” He gave her a short kiss and thought to himself, ‘she wouldn’t be saying that if she knew that her possible ex lived a few doors down.’ “I’m not going to let anything or anyone get you. Let’s enjoy tonight.”

“I’m trying.” She huffed watching him light the barbecue coals.

“Hey.” The back door opened letting Whitney slip out. Fade opened the door wider and stepped behind her. Whitney hugged June tightly from behind, “I love you.”

June was surprised to hear Whitney say that. The one person she thought hated her originally from the beginning. “Love you too.” She grabbed her arm.

“Look.” She released June and walked around to face her. She assembled her raw knuckles as they read ladylike. “Isn’t that bad ass?”

“It looks really good. I love the heart by the k, it adds to your engagement ring.”

“I know right?”

Wolfgang stepped next to them and pulled Juniper into his arms, “When are you going to get one?” He murmured.

“You should totally get one.” Whitney agreed with him, turning back to Fade.

“Oh yeah? What should I get?”

“I don’t know, something simple. A flower, or a bird. Maybe my name.”

“Are you crazy?” Her head pulled away.

“I’m teasing about my name. It’s so easy to mess with you right now Juniper, I'm sorry.” He leaned in closer, resting his forehead on her brow. “Are you still going to therapy?”

“Yes. I’m just not convinced it's not him.”

“Have you seen him since?”

“No.” She pulled away, lettinging his head drop. “I don’t want to talk about it anymore, we should start grilling. I’ll go get the meat.” She turned to go inside while avoiding Whitney and Fade leaning against the patio set, even though they were into themselves at the moment.

She turned into the kitchen as the front door thudded with a knock and bee lined for the door, opening it to find the last guest to arrive, Max and Shianne. “Hey guys.” She smiled.

“Hey Max.” Wolfgang bellowed from the kitchen and startled June. She looked over her shoulder to see him grabbing the random meat packages. Something she said she was going to do.

Feeling that Shianne should make herself at home since she used to live there, she walked towards Wolfie who was eyeing her. “I’m sorry.” Guilt came over her.

He opened the door for her to step out first, “For what?”

“I didn’t bring out the meat.”

“It's fine, you’re hosting.” His soft lips smiled towards her. He kissed her before she exited, not caring that Shianne and Max were nearby. “I love you, can you grab me a clean plate?”

“Yes.”

June bundled herself in a blanket, not even sure she was cold and waddled outside.
