I have no idea what to say to my daughter. She is so young and does not need to know the drama of my life.

“It is Cam’s day off, she needed some time to herself.”

“Okay,” Maisey seemed to accept my excuse as she went back to her tablet that I set up for her.

Rolling my shoulders back, I grip the steering wheel tight.

I am very bothered by Cam knowing me but I also cannot help but feel guilty as well. I know who she is and I never said anything either.

No, I am not to blame.

The rest of the ride home, I seethed. I always knew there was something sneaky about Cam. I may not have treated her the best growing up but she must have been out for revenge.

We made it home in record time as I sped as fast as I could through the streets of New York City.

“Daddy, can we watch Little Fairies?” Maisey asks as soon as the penthouse doors close behind us.

“Of course, sweetheart, you can go put it on the living room television, I’ll be there soon,” I say with a fake smile on my face.

I want to bond with my sweet daughter but my thoughts are consumed with Cam and her deceit.

As Maisey races off to turn the television on, I go to the kitchen and pop some buttery popcorn, a favorite snack of Maisey and I. It is a tradition that when we watch television or a movie together we eat buttery popcorn. We used to do this with her mother and we keep her memory alive by continuing the tradition.

Taking a deep breath, I compose myself and head into the living room.

Maisey beams up at me as I sit down next to her. I pull her into my arms and just hold her tight. Maisey means the world to me and I am not going to let any drama affect the way I treat her.

We spend the rest of the day watching Little Fairies and eating popcorn, then I put Maisey to bed and go to my room.

I grab the photo that is on my night stand. It is a photo of my late wife. In the photo she was laying on our bed, dark brown locks a mess but she had the widest grin on her face. It was a grin filled with pure joy and love as I took the photo of her after an intimate moment.

I stare into her eyes and my heart aches. All I want is to hold her in my arms one last time and tell her I love her but she is gone and I can never tell her that again.

Setting the photo down, I rethink about my day.

It was challenging finding out that Cam knows exactly who I am but the day spent with Maisey was brilliant.

My thoughts are filled with images of Cam as I fade off to sleep.

Work is busy. Meeting after meeting. It is not until after lunch when I finally get a moment to rest.

As I stare at my computer screen trying to catch up on emails, I see an email from Camdyn Schriefer.

My gut tenses.

What could she possibly want?

Just seeing her name causes a bought of fury to flow throughout my bones.

She knows who I am and still took the job. What kind of person does that? Maybe she is out looking for revenge but that does not seem like something Cam of the past would do.

Shaking my head, I click and open the email.

Dear Parker,

I am so sorry things turned out the way they did. I had no clue who you were when I took the job. You looked familiar but with your new last name, I had no idea it was you. It was a few days later when I realized just who you were and by then it felt too late to say anything and I was embarrassed.

I want to apologize for how you found out but from your reaction it was clear you know who I am as well.
