“But all my other nannies have left, why won’t you?”
Gazing into her small eyes my heart breaks. This little girl has had so much loss for such a young age. I am not about to add to that.
“I am here to stay Maisey, you just have to trust that. I care deeply for you.”
“And daddy?”
“And daddy what?” I ask scrunching my brows, unsure of what Maisey is asking.
“Do you care for Daddy?”
I freeze for the umpteenth time today.
Do I care for Parker Madison?
I do. I hate to admit it but I really do and I am about to become his fake fiancée.
“I do care for him. Yes. Now let’s get you back to bed.”
I walk Maisey back to her room and tuck her in.
“Will you stay with me until I fall asleep?”
Nodding, I sit on the floor next to her bed and sing softly as Maisey drifts to sleep.
Watching Maisey fall into a light sleep, I think about my future.
I have always wanted a family but I am still young. I have many years ahead of me but will I be able to have a life after ending the fake engagement with Parker?
Will anyone want to be with me if they knew that I was a liar?
There is so much that I didn't know and that I fear but my mind was made up.
Once I hear soft snores coming from Maisey, I get up and head towards Parker’s office where I know he will be.
I stand outside the office doors for a moment basking in my normal life.
Everything is about to change once I accept his offer.
Entering his office without knocking, Parker looks up at me from his computer screen.
“I’ll do it.” I say hands on my hips, “But if we are going to do this we have to do it right.”
“I agree,” Parker says standing up and making his way towards me.
My eyes widen the closer he gets.
What is he doing?
Parker opens his arms and I fall into his embrace. He wraps his arms around me and I am overwhelmed by how warm he is. My head reaches his shoulder and I set my head against it. Parker holds me for what feels like forever and there are no complaints from me. He will randomly squeeze me and it causesmy eyes to close. Just being in his arms makes all my fears melt away. I will never admit it out loud but being in his arms feels like home.
After a few minutes, I finally pull away.
Our eyes lock and I want to ask what that was for but I fear the answer. I knew Parker back in the day and I know that he will just avoid the truth.
“Let me take you out on a date tomorrow,” Parker says as his green eyes gaze into mine.
My heart flips in my chest. Parker Madison wants to take me out. Smiling, I tuck a strand of hair behind my ear as I look at the ground.
