“How?”

My eye brows furrow at his words.

“With everything that is going on with Nicoli Petrovich, having a fiancée will take some of the stress off the situation. Pretending to be engaged will make headlines bigger than anything that Nicoli could think up to ruin me.”

I stare at Parker.

He is asking me to pretend to be his fiancée. I did not sign up for this.

“Parker, I don’t think I can do that. I hate lying and this would be the ultimate lie. And what about Maisey?”

Parker evades eye contact.

“She is smart and will see right through our charade. Can you live with lying to her too?” I wonder out loud.

Parker looks back at me, “Then we have to be convincing.”

I honestly do not know what to say. I want to be there for Parker but this feels icky. Lying is not something I am good at, I could barely keep the fact that I knew Parker from him. Hell, I slipped up in front of him at the least opportune time.

“Parker, I need some time to think things over.”

“But that’s not a no?”

“No, it's not a no.”

With that, I get up and head to my bedroom.

Laying on my bed, I stare up at the ceiling. Parker Madison wants me to pretend to be his fiancée.

My stomach rolls at the thought but not from fear but from curiosity.

What would it be like to be with Parker as a fiancée?

Would he spoil me? Would he spend more time at home?

These thoughts roam my brain until a knock on the door startles me.

“Come in,” I call out sitting up.

I straighten my hair in case Parker is on the other side.

The door opens and a small head pokes through.

“Miss Cam, I had a bad dream.”

“Awe, Maisey what did you dream?”

“I dreamed that you left daddy and I and we never saw you again.”

I freeze at her words.

There is no way I can leave this little girl.

Swallowing I grab Maisey into my arms.

“That is an unrealistic fear, Maisey. I am right here.”
