I nod, “I’m perfect.”

We stare into each other's eyes and my heart feels like it is on fire with emotion that I don’t want to think about. There is just something about Parker that makes me feel things I have never felt before and while that scares me, in this moment it excites me.

I wonder if he feels the same?

We finally start moving again and I break our eye contact to look at Maisey who has a huge grin on her face as shelooks around. Seeing this little girl so happy makes my already aflamed heart burn even brighter. She is such a doll and all I want is for her to keep smiling.

After the ferris wheel we walk toward a food truck that is serving corn dogs and get an extra long one for all three of us to share. It is almost a foot long and covered in mustard.

Maisey loves it and she holds my hand the entire time that we eat.

I catch Parker glancing at our entwined hands and it makes me wonder what exactly it is that he is thinking.

Does it bother him that Maisey and I have grown so close? Does it make him feel things that he cannot explain?

“I’m full,” Maisey says, breaking me out of my thoughts.

“That’s what happens when you shove food in your face, little one,” Parker says to his daughter.

Maisey pouts at him as she rubs her tummy with her free hand.

“I think it’s time we head home,” Parker says standing up.

Maisey nods as a yawn escapes her throat.

Seeing her yawn makes me realize just how long we have been out. It is almost seven and I am starting to get tired. Walking around all day makes my feet hurt and walking toward the car is a feat all on its own.

We make it home and Maisey runs to her room to get ready for bed.

Both Parker and I follow her to her room and read her a story about jumping sheep before she fades into sleep.

She looks so small and innocent as she lays there breathing lightly.

“Cam?”

I look towards Parker who is sitting on the ground beside me.

“Yes?”

“Tomorrow night there is a board dinner. Would you like to come with me?”

My eyebrows shoot up.

Why would I go to a board meeting with Parker?

Parker must sense my apprehension as he explains, “They found out about our engagement and everyone wants to meet you. I know it's your day off but it would mean a great deal to me if you would accompany me.”

My heart races at his last sentence.

He is right. It is my day off tomorrow, as it is Sunday, but spending more time with Parker is something that I don’t think I can ever turn down.

“Of course I’ll come. What kind of fake fiancée would I be if I didn’t show up when needed?” I joke. “Now let's get out of here before we wake her up.”

We exit Maisey’s room and I start to hobble toward my own.

“What’s wrong?” Parker asks as he follows me down the hall.

“My feet just hurt. We walked a lot today,” I confess, a bit embarrassed. I don’t need Parker to know just how much my soles hurt from the cowboy boots.
