“I think you will find she has the experience and qualifications needed for the job and her references are impeccable.”

“Wonderful. Thank you again, Shantal.”

“You’re welcome, Mr. Madison.”

The phone goes dead.

This is shaping up to be a great day. I am just thinking how I hope they would be quick with the hiring process and here she is starting today.

Hopefully, this nanny will work out. I’ve been going through nannies like a woman goes through shoes. I never knew it could be so hard to find good help.

I sit back and sigh.

This past year has been hard and such a roller coaster. I could use some dependable and consistent help with Maisey. She, especially has had a hard time since her mother's death. She just needs someone who will stick around and either not quit or not get fired. Maisey needs stability besides me and I cannot be there for her all day every day, even if I wish I could be.

I shake my head clear before the memories come flooding back. I need to be on my A game today. I can’t wallow in the past, even if I want to.

I get to the office just after nine. Cynthia greets me at the elevator with a cup of coffee, a stack of messages, and half a donut. I take all three from Cynthia and put the donut in my mouth. I begin perusing the messages, prioritizing them for after the meeting as we walk to the office.

“Ms. Acosta is waiting for you in the conference room.”

I swallow the donut. “Thank you, Cynthia.”

She goes to her desk and I open the office door and drop my briefcase and messages on the desk and go to the conference room.

“Ms. Acosta, thank you for your patience.” I stride across the room, back straight, and reach out to shake her hand. She stands and greets me.

“No worries, Mr. Madison. Your assistant was kind and gave me some coffee while I waited.”

Ms. Acosta is a pretty older lady. She has long dark hair and small brown eyes. Her face exudes confidence and it makes me eager to hear about her company and what they have to offer mine.

“Please, have a seat. Tell me about your company and what you offer in the way of artificial intelligence tools and equipment.”

We take our seats and she puts a brochure in front of me. We go through the brochure together. My interest peaks when she shows me a source platform for machine learning projects. It looks easy to use. Though, I hesitate when she shows me the price sheet. It is rather expensive.

“Ms. Acosta, thank you for taking the time to meet with me today. I am interested in what your company offers. Let me sit with the information and present it to the board and I’ll give you a call next week, would that be alright?”

“I think that would be great. Here is my card. Please call me as questions arise.”

We shake hands and we make small talk as I escort her to the elevators. A quick wave and I return to my office. Cynthia hands me another stack of messages and I shoot her a friendly glare. Cynthia has dark skin and shoulder length black curls. I was hesitant at first to hire her because of how gorgeous she was. I did not want to risk any at work relations but we have nothing in common and we see each other as nothing morethan dependable coworkers. I am thankful to have someone like Cynthia as my assistant.

Going to my big office, I sit behind the computer and run my hand through my thick brown hair. My office is the biggest one in the building as I am the head of the office. There is a huge oak desk in the middle of the room, which I am currently sitting behind, and a wall with floor to ceiling bookshelf filled with business and self-help books. It is quite an impressive collection but I will admit I have not read most of the material.

As I open the email the nanny service sent over with the new nanny’s credentials, the intercom buzzes.

“Yes.”

“Sir, don’t forget about your meeting with the board.”

“Is it that time already, thanks, Cynthia.”

I close out the email and head back over to the conference room. The board is small and consists of department heads. I still hold autonomy over the business since I built it. I do however realize that I’m not the smartest person in the room and would like input on major decisions to help move my company forward. These are my most trusted advisors.

“Good morning everyone,” I say as I walk into the room.

Everyone sits up straight at my presence and it feels good to know that I have such an affect on the people around me, especially my fellow coworkers and employees.

“Good morning.” I shake hands with everyone and ask them how they are doing. I like to know about the people who work for me so I can make sure I provide the very best care for them and their families. It makes me feel good knowing that I am close to everyone who works for me. I built this company from the ground up and I am proud of everything that I have accomplished, but I know that I did not do it alone. Every single person in this room has played an integral part in our success.
