Maisey shuffles her feet, “The other day I came to look for you and I overheard you call Cam your fiancée on the phone.”

Oh goodness. Of course I let the secret slip unknowingly.

“So, is she your fiancée?”

How do I tell my daughter no but yes. Cam is my fake fiancée but not my actual fiancée.

“Do you even know what a fiancé is?” I finally ask after Maisey stares at me waiting for an answer.

“Duh,” Maisey says as she looks sideways at me. “A fiancé is like being an extra special friend.”

I let out a breath. Maisey doesn’t actually know what being a fiancé is.

“Cam is my extra special friend. We actually have known each other for a while. She was a friend from long ago,” I admit.

Maisey’s eyes turn into slits.

“You never talk about where you came from.”

“Someday I will, but not today,” I tell my daughter.

Maisey pouts before she smiles, “So, Cam is going to be my mommy?”

I stutter.

I thought that I got away with saying Cam was just my extra special friend.

“Do you want Cam to be your mommy?”

Maisey pauses thinking about my question before she nods vigorously.

The sight of Maisey nodding to having Cam be her mother startles me. I imagined Cam as my wife and Maisey’s mom but knowing Maisey would be okay with that makes my heart beat fast. If Maisey is okay with it and so am I, maybe Cam will be too.

“How about you go back to your room and try to sleep. I’ll be in there in an hour and then we can spend the day together,” I urge Maisey.

“Okay daddy.”

Maisey walks out of my study and I lay down on the floor with my arm over my eyes.

This conversation went in a way that I was not expecting. Maisey is a smart girl but maybe a bit too smart.

Chapter 15 - Camdyn Schriefer

Laying in my bed, I stare up at the white ceiling. It is Sunday which means that I am off. No Maisey today. The only bad thing about being a nanny for a six year old is that I do not have any friends my age. So, on my off days, it is just me.

I don’t usually mind being by myself but the realization that I am young and friendless hits close to home but I shake it off. I am determined to go out today and have fun and maybe even meet some cool people. But all my club-like clothes I left at my apartment that the agency supplied me. It didn’t seem fitting to bring them to my nannying job. I also hid some money there for safekeeping in case the nannying gig did not work out.

I usually go to my apartment every other week to relax on my own but today I am determined to grab everything I have left and bring it home to the penthouse.

Getting dressed in a light blue maxi dress and sandals, I walk out of my bedroom. I can hear Maisey and Parker playing a game in the living room so I stop by to say hello.

“Hi, I’m just heading to my apartment to grab some things but I will be right back,” I say.

Parker looks up at me with a small smile and nods. His smile makes my body hot but Maisey stands up and rushes towards me.

“I’ll miss you mommy,” Maisey says to me, causing my body to stiffen.

I make eye contact with Parker and his eyes must be as wide as my own. Maisey must have talked to him and he must have explained everything for him not to be correcting her.
