Parker’s arms are still around me and my stomach is in knots.

How is he going to take my confession?

“If I ever see him, I’m going to kill him,” Parker says. “I’m sorry he put you through that but just know. Your yelling doesn’t matter. He should never have put hands on you.”

I know that Parker is right but hearing my thoughts being validated just makes me melt.

“Thank you. That’s part of the reason I hate arguments and I am non confrontational.”

“I understand, I will do my best to never yell at you and I swear I will never ever put hands on you.”

I smile up at him and he looks down at me.

I pucker up and he leans down and kisses me.

The kiss is sweet and makes my soul soar.

At the moment, I know that there is something real between us. I trust him and that is something that is not hard for me.

Chapter 18 - Parker Madison

Work has been taking up most of my time these past two weeks. Maisey has even been complaining about how long I’m at the office.

What she doesn’t know is that after work I’ve been stopping at the police station everyday to see if they have any updates about Cam’s case.

Cam doesn’t know I’m doing this but as soon as they figure out something I want to know. Knowing that Cam doesn’t feel safe makes my body ache. I just want her to feel protected when she is with me.

“Officer Yang, any more updates in the Schriefer case?” I ask as I enter the precinct.

Officer Yang looks at me with her light brown eyes with sadness.

“Not yet Mr. Madison. I told you I’d call if there were any updates.”

“And there is no sign of her ex boyfriend? Johnny Anderson?”

Officer Yang shakes her head, “Again no one has seen a six four bleached blonde man running around New York City.”

Her sarcasm is not appreciated but I keep cool. No need to show her how her tone really makes me feel.

“Thank you Officer Yang. Please keep me updated and I’ll see you tomorrow!” I call out as I walk out of the precinct.

I go home defeated. With no news, I feel like a failure. It’s been two weeks and if they’ve found nothing it’s more than likely they won’t find anything unless they get a huge break in the case. Which is very unlikely.

I may not know who Johnny Anderson is and he may be bigger than me but I won’t let him touch a single hair on Cam’s beautiful head. She is too important to me. I can’t lose her.

“I want ice cream!” I hear Maisey shouting as I get off the elevator.

I just got home from another bust at the police station and a full day of work.

“You have to have dinner first Maisey,” I hear Cam explaining.

It puts a smile on my face to know she cares about my daughter and her health.

“Now, what would you like for dinner?” Cam asks Maisey.

Walking into the kitchen I see a pouting Maisey and Cam has her hands on her hips.
