“I wanted to give you an update on Ms. Schriefer’s police report.”

I swallow.

What in the world could be going on?

“We looked into Johnny Anderson and found he was already in the system and he left finger prints behind in the apartment. We also found that a journal of Ms. Schriefer, had the most recent pages ripped out of it. We also discovered that those pages were submitted to news outlets outing the nature of your relationship with Ms. Schriefer.”

Dread fills my body.

Johnny Anderson is behind everything… not Cam.

A wave of nausea flows over my entire being.

I feel absolutely terrible as I thank officer Yang and hang up the phone.

I treated Cam so poorly thinking she spilled the beans but it wasn’t her. It was her evil ex.

How in the world did Johnny even know to come to New York City?

Cam must be feeling helpless and all alone.

Shaking my head, I pick Maisey up and hug her close. I need to feel comforted as it hits me that I probably destroyed Cam. Our relationship ended because of me but I have to go and win her back.

Not knowing where she went, I spent the rest of the day with Maisey. We go to an aquarium and Maisey loves all the fishies.

Though my heart is broken, it heals just a bit by spending time with my daughter.

Once we arrived back at our apartment building, I knock on Mrs. Connelley's door. She answers after the second knock.

“Why, Parker and Maisey, isn’t it grand to see you two.”

“Mrs. Connelley, would you be able to watch Maisey for a few days? I have a woman I need to win over.”

She looks me up and down before leaning in close, “If it's Cam then go right ahead. You two looked so smitten the last time I saw y’all. I will watch Maise for you.”

Maisey beams up at Mrs. Connelley and I take off down the elevator. There is only one place that I can think of to check for Cam and that is Piedmon.

Chapter 23 - Camdyn Schreifer

“Good job Tobi” I called out to the little boy who lives down the street from my mother’s house who I have been staying at.

I have been watching Tobi for the last week as his mother works second shift at the hospital.

Tobi is currently going down slides and running around with a happy grin on his face.

I wish I could feel the happiness Tobi was feeling but with a broken heart and hurt soul it is hard to have a smile on my face.

Watching Tobi run around reminds me so much of Maisey, even if Tobi is two and Maisy is six. They have similarities. Both have wide smiles and soft skin. Where Tobi has red hair, it is long like Maisey’s.

My serenity of watching Tobi is broken when an arm is thrown around my shoulder.

“Hey baby, long time no see,” Johnny Anderson whispers into my ear.

My entire body freezes up.

I know it is only a matter of time before he finds me. I have been living with my mother for the last three weeks and had heard that Johnny was still in town but have never come across him. I have been looking over my shoulder every time I leave the house but I finally thought I was safe. Why would he approach me when I am with a child at the park? But here we are.

“Johnny, I’m with Tobi Miller. Can we not do this right now?” I beg him, shrugging his arm from around my shoulder.
