Executive Assistant to Ryker West

West Bay Ventures

I gavethe email one last read through before I snapped my laptop closed and started tidying up in preparation for Ryker's arrival to go over the details for the upcoming gala. We needed to determine styles and locations for his promo shots, and solidify a vision for the event itself. From the email his assistant sent me, the event was only a few weeks out.

I glanced around the open room, ensuring my best equipment was easily accessible. Classic cameras were carefully arranged on rustic wooden shelves alongside modern digital models. Soft studio lighting stood ready to accentuate natural sunshine. A long table held neat rows of lenses, filters, and accessories. My thought was to grab a few shots here in studio, and then try some location ones.

In the small kitchenette off to the side of the building, I started a fresh pot of coffee. No doubt Ryker would turn up with a cup of black poison in hand, looking impeccably polished.

At least, if memory served.

Could be his coffee tastes changed over the years. I smiled to myself, imagining his surprise when I handed him a more seasonal peppermint mocha latte instead. It was obvious the man needed a little holiday cheer in his life.

At 9am sharp, a brisk knock rapped at the studio door. Vintage camera in hand, I called out, "It's open!" without glancing up. The door swung wide and familiar cologne wafted in—a warm, masculine scent with hints of pine I would recognize anywhere. I grinned down at the camera.

Right on time, as always.

"Well, well, look who finally decided to show up!” Setting the camera down, I crossed my arms as I turned to face him. A smile curved my lips when I noticed the cup he was holding.

Black poison in hand, as predicted.

Ryker’s tall, lean body filled the room. He was dressed casually, even more casual than our last encounter. But given the material and cut of his faded jeans and thin t-shirt, coupled with designer boat shoes, I was reasonably sure I could still make a car payment with what he likely spent on them.
