“I’m sorry,” she said with a rough voice.

“You didn’t do anything wrong.”

“I did everything wrong.”

He cupped her face and kissed her briefly. “You came back. That’s what matters.”

“Can you take me back to your house? I promise I won’t run again. I want to talk.”

“I have some things to tell you too.”

She nodded. He breathed a sigh of relief, thankful to have her back in his arms again.

As they climbed the stairs, she shrank against him when they hit the top step and saw the two males. “Next time someone asks for me,” Romeo growled, “you fucking get me, and you don’t throw that person in a cell first.”

Gavin pressed his lips into a thin line but nodded once. Nero already looked sorry, but he nodded profusely.

Romeo steered Ashley toward his house.

“What about my car?” she asked.

He called over his shoulder, “Someone drive her car to my house and leave the keys on the front seat.”

“This has been the worst day of my life,” she said.

“I’m sorry you got caught up in whatever those guys thought they were doing.”

He was glad she’d been on her way back to see him, but it meant he had to talk to her now instead of going to speak with Cyrus.

As he opened the front door of his home for her, he sent a text to Cyrus.

I’ve been delayed. I’ll check in with you later.

Then he sent a text to Midas.

My truemate is back at my house. I’ll text you later and let you know what’s going on, but trust that I have it under control.

Then he turned off his phone and set it on the coffee table, giving all his attention to her.

“Are you okay, sweets?” he asked.

She hugged her arms around herself. “Yeah.”

“I have something to confess,” she said.

“Let me tell you my news first,” he said. “Because I think that it’s going to change everything.”

She stared at him for a moment, and then she looked at the flames that licked at the faux logs in the fireplace. Then her whole demeanor changed. She shrugged off her coat, tossed it to a nearby chair, and walked slowly toward him. He could pick up the scent of her arousal and it beat at him, making his tiger prowl in his mind.

“Ashley?”

She bumped gently against him, her soft curves fitting against him perfectly. Her eyes darkened, and he swore there was a flash of amber in the brown depths, which made him want to put a stop to whatever sexy thoughts she had on her mind so he could tell her everything.

She went onto her toes and kissed him, and every good intention he had to share what he’d learned about her and her family fled in the wake of the deepest arousal he’d ever experienced in his life.

Talking could wait.

His mate wanted his attention, and, by Hades, she was going to get it.
