He’d never given them the detail that Bellamy knew about what Clay had done from Liza and she was the one to push his girl to talk to Eve. Then something Eve said clicked. She said Bellamy told Liza to talk to her mom or Bellamy was going to talk to Race. Son of a bitch. It had to be her. He rubbed absently at his stubbled jaw, wondering how best to confront her with what he knew.

“Did you hear about the big snow storm they’re predicting for later this week?” Jed asked the table at large.

Talk of the upcoming storm brought Race back out of his head and to back to the issue he’d wanted to discuss today.

“Yeah. It looks like it’s going to be a bad one,” Trick replied.

“That’s the reason for this meeting today. I want everyone to do an inventory of things you’ll need to get you through the storm and take care of it. Then I want you to checking with Dagger regarding things that need to be done here. I’d like those of you without generators to get here before the storm hits and be prepared to ride it out.”

He turned to Maverick. “Since Jane is the current most senior old lady, I need her to get with the other old ladies and get a list of supplies we’ll need. I want two of you to go with them when they hit the store to help out.” He nodded his head when Chris and Darren raised their hands and volunteered.

“I also need someone to check the generators here to make sure they’re running properly and gassed up. Someone also needs to get the backup gas tank topped off. Any questions or anything to add?” With no further discussion about the storm and what needed to be done forthcoming, he added, “Dagger has a list of other things that need done. Check in with him for what you can do to help.”

Dagger leaned forward and looked down the table. “I know this goes without saying, but if we end up snowed in and the power goes out, no sweet butts or hang arounds until it’s over.”

The single brothers all loved and respected the families too much to do that so Race asked, “Anybody else have anything we need to address?”

“Yeah. Darren and I were at the gas station yesterday and happened to see two guys from the Phantom Furies MC drive by.” Tulsa spoke up. “What do we know about them?” Tulsa was a recent transplant from Oklahoma and didn’t know the history between the Sons and the Phantoms.

“You run them out of town?” Maverick asked.

“Yeah.”

“The Phantoms have been trying every couple of years to spread their dirty little fingers into our territory. They push, then we push back. No full out war as of yet.” Jackson filled him in.

“Hope it stays that way,” Tuck spoke up.

“Me, too, but now that they have the backing of the cartel, things could escalate,” Maverick added.

“You heard it. Keep your eyes out for Phantoms as well as anyone associated with Kurtis Black. Report anything you come across,” Race instructed. He hadn’t forgotten that Kurtis’s boss was looking to fuck with them. He’d made his first play, but nothing since the note. Jacob Jacobson didn’t get to his lofty position by being stupid or impatient. His lack of fuckery didn’t go unnoticed by anyone in the room and kept everyone on edge.

“Anyone ever get a picture of this Jacob Jacobson guy so we have some idea who we’re looking for?” Jed asked.

“Yeah. I got one from Preacher this morning. I’ll send it to you all when we’re done.”

With nothing else new to go over, everyone set about dividing the necessary chores that needed done before the end of the week.

For now, Race had an errand of his own to run.

* * *

Bellamy was placingnew merchandise on the shelves, thinking to herself how the color of the topaz earrings she was holding would go perfectly with Liza’s eyes. There was also a hair clip made with coral, turquoise and white opal that she thought she’d like as well. Earlier she’d found a bracelet with moonstones that would be perfect for Shannon. The stones had a ghostly sheen that danced across the surface when held to the light.

The bell tinkled above the door announcing another customer. She was facing away when she heard, “Bellamy!” from across the room. She spun to see who it was and was excited to see Liza and Shannon heading her direction.

“Liza! Shannon! It’s so good to see you! What brings you to Bling?” Bellamy was genuinely happy to see Race’s girls. She looked past them to see if he’d brought them in, but he was nowhere to be found.

“That would be me,” a tall blonde woman said as she approached with her hand extended. “I’m Eve Caulfield. Their mom.”

Bellamy accepted her hand in greeting. “Hi. I’m Bellamy. I own the store.”

Wow. The woman was stunning. She could see where Liza got her beauty. Race’s oldest daughter looked so much like her mother. The woman had straight, highlighted blonde hair that was curled perfectly around her face. She was a couple of inches taller than Bellamy and a lot slimmer. She was dressed in dark-washed jeans, high-heeled black leather above-the-knee boots with a white tank and a mid-thigh length cardigan sweater in several shades of brown, mostly dark browns. She wore large gold hoop earrings, a gold cuff bracelet and a diamond ring that was at least a carat and a half. Wow again.

Why had Race and Eve broken up? The woman was gorgeous and Bellamy could completely see her hanging out on the beaches of California, maybe even surfing. She was also very friendly. The way her kids were so well mannered and well behaved, being a great mother could be added to the list of attributes, too.

“It’s so nice to meet you. My kids have nothing but wonderful things to say about you.” Bellamy could see she sincerely meant what she’d said. She didn’t detect the slightest hint of cattiness or snarkiness.

Bellamy laughed. “I hope it was at least a little good.”
