“Thank you. I must say everyone looks pretty hot in their suits.”

The men all laughed. “Us old guys still have it,” Grant said.

“I’m sure your wives think that too. Lucky you.”

They watched as Elise walked away. “She is a doll,” Jim said.

Richard laughed. “She can be but doesn’t show it often. I’m glad you guys got to see a glimpse of it. It gives me hope that Gabe is exactly what she needs.”

“Now you just need to convince her to let everyone know.”

“That’s the hard part. There is no convincing my daughter of anything unless she is ready. And she can’t be. She’s a smart one and yet she hasn’t put it together she and Gabe were the target. I’m kind of disappointed in that.”

“Maybe she is blinded by how great my son is,” Jim said, smirking.

“Been there and done that,” Garrett said. “Let’s see what my wife can do about it.”

He turned his head and saw his wife moving toward Elise with Diane in tow. Guess he’d get an update soon.

NOT CHANGING

“Elise,” Carolyn said to her when she made her way back to her table to take her shoes off. She wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep them on her feet even if she was just sitting here. “How are you doing?”

“I’m great,” she said. Diane had come over to talk too. She was surprised it’d taken as long as it had for one of them to talk to her.

“You do look lovely today. So different than we are used to seeing you.”

“It took a lot of work for this to happen,” she said. “Who has the time?”

Both women laughed at her. “We know that feeling well,” Diane said. “But we’ve had our fair share of weddings lately.”

“I’m sure you have,” she said.

“You looked nice dancing with Zander,” Carolyn said. “Almost like a couple...”

Thiswas what they were planning? Man, they were way off base.

“He’s like another brother to me,” she said. “Eww.”

“I heard that,” Zander shouted from the end of the table where he was talking with her brother. Royce smirked at her and she knew he was finding enjoyment out of her being tag teamed late in the day. When she’d be tired and weak.

Not so tired or weak she couldn’t see what they were doing. It took them longer than she thought to come up with their plan even though her father said he’d told them to leave her off the list.

“That is why I said it so loudly,” she said to Zander while she pointed at him.

“See,” Carolyn said. “You even get along well.”

“Sorry, ladies,” she said. She lowered her voice to a normal level now. “He’s not my type. A great guy but not for me. You’ll have to find someone else for him.”

“That’s too bad,” Diane said. “But we are up for the challenge. Between him, and Gabe and Dane. All those eligible bachelors here.”

“We’ve got someone in mind for Gabe,” Carolyn said. “Remember we talked about that.”

“Oh yeah,” Diane said. “Sorry. I just forgot.”

Elise watched the two ladies looking at each other. Damn it. She wanted to know who but couldn’t very well ask. They’d want to know why.
