Everyone thought she couldn’t care less about Gabe so she couldn’t show any interest in who they might have planned for him.

For the guy she was dating.

The one she was sleeping with.

The man she was losing a part of herself to that she never thought would happen.

And no one knew.

Her fault. She’d admit it.

But that would change soon. Maybe this week. She’d have to talk to Gabe about it more and get his take on it.

The fact he seemed somewhat annoyed when she told him to hang back while she left their hiding spot told her he’d be all for it.

There was part of her that felt kind of bad it’d been over a month they’d been keeping this quiet and maybe it was time to say it wasn’t just a fling but something they were working at.

“I guess that keeps you ladies busy in your retirement, doesn’t it?” she asked.

“It does. It’s not easy coming up with ladies worthy of those men,” Diane said.

“I’m sure it’s not,” she said. Her eyes shifted to Gabe. He’d moved next to Royce and Zander. At least they might think she was looking at Zander or her brother again and not the guy she was hoping to see naked later.

“You really should let us try to set you up,” Diane said. “If not with Zander then maybe someone else.”

That was said a little too loudly. Enough that Zander started to laugh, and Royce shook his head. Gabe frowned.

Jesus, these women were going to get her in trouble.

“No chance with Zander,” she said loudly again. Not just for these ladies but Gabe also.

She hadn’t expected him to be jealous of her dancing with Zander.

Well, not that he seemed all that jealous. It probably had more to do with him not being able to touch her or talk to her like he wanted today.

No one said she couldn’t talk to Gabe. Hmm, why hadn’t she thought of that?

Just because everyone knew the two of them didn’t seem to get along didn’t mean she couldn’t make her way over there to talk to Royce and Zander. After the Fierce women left that is.

“You can’t blame us for trying,” Carolyn said, putting her hand on Elise’s arm and leaning in close. “It’s fine. We’ve got people lined up for Gabe and maybe Zander.”

She forced a smile and watched the two women walk away.

She stood up and moved closer to the three men, barefoot. Chloe came over with Willow and it just felt like a group of friends talking rather than her trying to get close to Gabe.

“What was that about?” Royce asked her. “Do they think you and Zander would work out?”

“I doubt it,” she said. “They are just playing their games. Besides, they said they’ve got someone picked out for Gabe and maybe Zander.”

“Fuck no,” Zander said. “I’m not playing those games. No offense meant to the newly married couple.”

“None taken,” Chloe said. “As you know, we did all the work ourselves.”

“Good point,” Zander said.

Elise was going to keep her opinion to herself about the conversation she’d had with her father and if Chloe would have ever made that move toward Royce if the Fierces hadn’t matched them up on their list.

“Did they say who they had picked out for Gabe?” Royce asked, smirking at her. She wasn’t sure what that was about. Everyone knew how she felt about Gabe. Which of course was going to make it much harder to come out and say she was dating the guy now.
