“You’re makin’ me hard right now. I wanna bend you over the desk and fuck you until you can’t think straight.”

“What? Why?”

“Because you’re fuckin’ gorgeous. You’re a good mom. You’re too fuckin’ good for me,” he replies before pulling away. It’s like a slap to the face. He steps back and shakes his head before scrubbing his hand down his face.

“Go home.”

“What? I can’t. I need to talk to Kimber,” I tell him.

“I said you quit. I’ll give you another job. Just go home for now, Lyra.”

“I’m so confused,” I whisper under my breath.

“I know you are, and so am I, but go home for tonight. You got the money?” he asks. I nod my head and turn to pull the door open when he stops me.

“Don’t let another man fuckin’ touch you.” His growl scares me, but I nod my head so I can get out of the room faster. I don’t need to argue with him anymore.

I tug the door open and rush down the hall to the other room to grab my clothes. The girls don’t even look my way as I dress and toss my bag over my shoulder before heading for the back door.

I walk quickly, needing to put some space between Knight and me. I don’t know what that was, but I can’t let it happen again. He might have just cost me my job.

I hurry to my car and climb inside, starting it up. My head is a confused mess. I don’t know what just happened here. What was that? And his words? What did he mean?

I shake my head and turn to look back at the building, seeing him standing there by the door, staring at me. He has a cigarette between his lips as he leans against the brick building. Our eyes lock, and the air leaves my lungs. How does he have that effect on me?

It’s hard, but I drag my gaze away from his and pull out of the parking lot. My phone rings nonstop, but I ignore it as I drive home.

When I pull in, I see the porch light on, but the rest of the house looks dark. Thank god for that. That means the boys are asleep.

Climbing out of my car, I head for the door with a foggy head. The smoke hasn’t cleared, and I’m still as confused as ever. My cell dings again, and I pull it from my purse and check the messages. They’re all from Kimber.

I get inside, toss my purse on the chair, and dial her number as I walk to the kitchen.

“What the hell happened tonight? I’ve never gotten a complaint, Lyra!”

“I don’t know what happened. It was all so fast. I was dancing, and then Knight pulled me off the stage. He sent the guy away. It was crazy, Kimber.”

“Knight? Are you two together?” she asks, sounding as confused as I feel.

“No! Which is why I don’t get his reaction to me being there. He just lost it,” I tell her as I pour a glass of juice.

“Jesus. I don’t know what to say. I’ll call Knight and see what the hell the problem is. You have your regular tomorrow, same time, same place,” she instructs before hanging up. But Knight is my regular. How can I even look at him? How can I meet him tomorrow?

With a sigh, I walk to the boy’s rooms and check in on them. That’s when I noticed Cam wasn’t in his room. My heart kicks up a notch as I rush to my room to see if he’s in there.

“Cam?” I call out to him, but I get no answer. “Cam?” I yell louder.

Ihear yelling as I pull into the driveway, and I wonder what the hell is going on. I glance over at Lyra’s house when I see her come barreling out the front door.

“Cameron?” she screams, her voice sounding panicked. That’s when I moved. I walk toward her, and when she sees me, she blows out a breath.

“You good?”

“I can’t find Cameron.”
