“Okay. We can try this,” she agrees.

Lyra

I’m nervous. No, I’m beyond nervous. I don’t know what I let Knight talk me into. The boys are at home with Jessica for the night, and I know they’re safe with her. She carries a gun, for fucks sake. That isn’t what’s bothering me, though. It’s being here.

We walk into the clubhouse, and I gasp. Some girls are half-naked, dancing and touching men. No one seems to mind that but me though. Knight just leads me through the room toward the bar, where he grabs a few drinks, thrusting one into my hand.

“I don’t know about this,” I tell him over the music.

“This is my life, mama. Get used to it.” I watch Knight take down his shot before setting the glass back on the bar. I also see the way the woman behind the bar keeps smiling at him. I’ve never been the jealous type before, but something is leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

“This is crazy,” I tell him as I keep my eyes on her. He must follow my gaze before he laughs out loud.

“She’s nothin’. No one, Lyra. Just a club girl, and you can ask any of the guys; I don’t touch the club girls.”

“She doesn’t seem to care,” I tell him. He laughs harder and pulls me against him, nearly spilling my drink before he crashes his lips to mine. I should be happy he’s making this point in front of her, but I still kind of want to claw her fucking eyes out. I’ve never had this feeling before. I’ve never wanted to be violent with another woman like this.

“I’m not here with her,” Knight reminds me. I nod my head and accept it for what it is as he leads me through the room. We stop and talk to a few people before he pulls me to the back, where a group of guys stand.

“Hey fuckers,” he greets the guys loudly to get their attention. They turn to look at him before their eyes fall on me, taking me in.

“You brought us a present?” One of the guys asks. I immediately feel sick to my stomach and try to take a step back. Knight moves to stand behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist and holding me against him.

“This is Lyra. She’s off limits to you assholes,” he chuckles as they look at me. I see one raise an eyebrow, looking a little confused.

“Is that right?” he asks.

“Yeah, that’s right. Lyra, this is my Prez, Cage. That’s Tarek and Ridge over there,” he says, nodding toward the guys.

“Nice to meet you,” I say softly, unsure how I’m supposed to be acting here.

“You too. Knight’s never brought a girl around here, so excuse the question,” Cage says. I nod my head, remaining silent.

“It’s nice to meet someone Knight likes,” Ridge chimes in. Knight flips him off, and I smile at the banter between the guys.

“You need anything? This asshole takin’ care of you?” Tarek asks. I hold up my glass and say, “I think I’m good.”

“Introduce her to the girls,” Cage tells him. Knight lowers his head to my shoulder, his lips grazing my flesh. I shiver under his touch, and he chuckles against me.

“You want me, Mama?” he asks near my ear.

“There are people here,” I tell him.

“I have a room.”

“You have a room here?”

“Don’t sound so surprised. This is the clubhouse. We all have a room here in case we need it,” he tells me. I nod my head. That makes sense, I suppose. Although, I have no idea why he’d need to stay here when he has a home.

We stand with the guys few more minutes while they talk amongst themselves. I feel … off. I don’t know if I feel okay standing here. I don’t know anything about this place or these people.

I’m sure Knight would answer any questions I have for him, but I don’t know where to begin. I just stay tucked into his arms when he finally stops talking and ushers me down a hallway.

“Rooms are down here,” he explains, turning the knob to one of the rooms and shoving the door open. I walk in and take in the room. It’s nothing fancy, a bed, dresser, a small chair in the corner.

“You stay here a lot?”
