TRISTAN

Dash knew what he was doing when he asked me about a membership to Untouchable. There was no way I could afford it when I couldn’t even pay for a studio apartment. But he was Dash, charming and sweet, and there was no way I could say no to him. Besides, I wanted to see Romeo dance. I was hoping for something a little more personal with just the three of us, but that was my horny side talking. It had just been me and my hand for a while now, and I was over it. I had toys, sure, but nothing compared to the real thing.

The buzzer sounded on the front door. I’d only been home for a few minutes, enough time to change quickly and freshen up. Dash said he would pick me up, and we’d eat at the club.

Paperwork had to be filled out before I could enter. I did it while on my break at work. Thankfully, the club’s owner had a secure system where I could do everything online and not have to worry about an actual pen and paper. I hadn’t met Dexen, who owned the club, but Romeo and Dash had spoken about him.

The night I was at the restaurant with the band and other family and friends of the Ashfords, Dexen and his partners weren’t there, so I had yet to meet them. I knew who they were. On their own, they were big enough. Dexen Dremest, whose lastname was in the very city I lived. Greer Lynx, who was a CSO at Perry Altair Jr.’s company. And JJ Altair, who I knew of because of who his father was.

I was being let into some super cool secret place by having a membership to the exclusive club. How many people could say they could afford to get in there? I certainly didn’t know any before I met Elic and his friends. The only person I’d previously known who could afford it was Slater, and a one-night stand with him didn’t count as knowing him.

That was another thing I was grateful for. Dash didn’t care that I had been with his brother. Not in the slightest. It wasn’t like the two of us were in love and I was pining over him. Slater never made me feel like Dash did. Or Romeo.

Another buzz from the front door. Shit, I wasn’t paying attention.

I grabbed my phone and ran down the spiral stairs as quickly as I could without falling on my ass. The railing at the bottom was the only thing holding me upright, thanks to the dizzy spell from descending in a circle so fast. Once it subsided, I grabbed my keys off the counter, along with my wallet.

Dash was as gorgeous as ever. He wore a pair of dark green cargo shorts and a burgundy shirt. “Hey, baby,” he said with a grin, and wrapped me in a hug. I wanted to press my lips to his but refrained. We’d get there. It wasn’t bad taking things slowly. If I looked at my past relationships, they all went at the speed of light, and I knew how that road ended.

“Hi,” I replied and breathed him in. He had this light, citrusy scent I wanted to drown in. “Are you sure we don’t have to dress up to go to the club?”

I wore a pair of khaki-colored slim shorts and a white T-shirt. Nothing fancy at all. I looked like something out of one of those uniform sites where everyone bought the same clothes for work, even though that wasn’t what I wore. But this was what I could afford, and they fit, so I bought multiple shades of shorts.

The store I worked in had expensive clothes. They were casual but had this luxurious feel to them, as well as a hefty price tag. Everyone who worked there got a discount, but I still couldn’t afford them. I would need them to be down by seventy-five percent before I could buy anything in there.

“Dex said as long as we’re clothed and don’t look like slobs, he’s fine with what we wear. Most of the members are in suits because they go there straight from work, but he said plenty come in more relaxed clothing. He also explicitly told me I couldn’t whip my cock out and jack it off at the table.”

“Wasn’t that in the contract we signed?”

“It was, but he was making sure.” He chuckled. “You have to wonder how many times that happened for him to write it in a document members were required to sign.”

“I felt like I was applying for a mortgage,” I told him. There were multiple papers to read and sign.

“Whatever kind of mortgage you’re signing up for where our cocks are mentioned, I need to be part of that.” He smiled.

I gave his chest a playful shove and turned to lock the door behind me. There was an alarm on the house, but Romeo rarely set it. He had cameras everywhere that fed in to the security Jordan had. Only a handful of people had access to it, so he didn’t worry about someone breaking in here.

Dash held the SUV door for me, and I slid inside. How long did a new car smell last because this was intoxicating? I wanted to live in it. It was so new and clean.

We got on the road, and Dash rested his hand on the center console. I wondered if he did it with the intention of me possibly holding his hand. Either I sat here and let that question run through my mind, or I could reach down and take his hand in mine.

You have to take leaps, Tris. These men deserve it, and so do you. No one has ever treated you like they do.

My hand shot out and instead of taking his in mine, I slapped his forearm with the backs of my fingers hard enough to leave my hand stinging.

“The hell, Tris?” Dash asked and drew his arm back. I didn’t blame him. I fucking slapped him!

“Oh my god, I’m so sorry. I wanted to hold your hand and didn’t want to get wrapped up in my head, so I shot my arm out to just do it before I could talk myself out of it and instead, I slapped you.” All of that came out in a single breath.

I buried my face in my hands to hide my mortification. How the hell did I slap him? At least I didn’t hit him in the face. I would have had to leap out of the SUV at the next stoplight and run like my ass was on fire if I had done that.

My behavior was so odd. Maybe because I wanted this to be different, better than what I’d done in the past. I shouldn’t be this nervous holding hands. It was ridiculous.

“Hey,” Dash said softly. He tugged on my arm and then released me. “Stop, you startled me. Nothing more. I’m not angry at you.” I gave in and moved my hand so I could peer at him. He wore a sweet grin.

“I’m so sorry.”

“It’s fine. It was a mistake.”
