It didn’t take but a minute before Dexen started typing.

Dexen: You’ve already been through a background check. I have standard forms I’d need you to fill out as well as sign an NDA. Standard protocol. It should be quick once that’s done. And you pay me. A lot.

Me: *eye roll emoji* Like I’d screw you out of the money. What if I want to bring a friend along?

Dexen: Same protocol. Background check, paperwork, payment. I don’t care if it’s your father, everyone who steps into my club is subject to the rules.

Me: I get it. Let me ask my friend before I have you do the paperwork.

Dexen: There wouldn’t happen to be a certain dancer you’re coming to see, would there?

I wanted to reply that it wasn’t his business, but it was his club. Everything that went on in there was ultimately his responsibility. Plus, he’d seen Romeo and me with our shirts off in the VIP room. Nothing had happened, although it didn’t take much for Dexen to conclude what he had.

Me: I’ll get back to you once I talk to my friend.

Avoidance. My current best friend.

As fast as my fingers would let me, I pulled up the text thread I had with Tristan.

Me: I know you’re at work, so no rush responding. It can wait until you’re off the clock. What do you say to a membership at Untouchable so we can watch Romeo dance tonight?

“There,” I said aloud. “I messaged Dex and Tris. I have to go through the usual hoops, but if Tris wants this, we can get the paperwork hopefully done fast when he’s off work.”

Not expecting to hear back from Tristan until the end of his shift, I was surprised when my phone vibrated. He worked the main floor at a clothing store in East Dremest. It wasn’t a department store, but one brand. He’d been there for a few years. From what he’d told us, he kept getting passed over for a promotion. Tristan filled in for the assholes he worked with who constantly took off, yet management hadn’t recognized his excellent work ethic. If I thought he wouldn’t get pissed at me, I’d find his boss and have a talk with the prick. Tristan would hate that though. He enjoyed doing things on his own. His independence was very sexy.

What he didn’t understand was I wanted to take care of him and Romeo. I wanted to be there for them and have them lean on me. Romeo let me smother him with care when he had panic attacks.

Maybe I was looking at this wrong. Tristan let me take him on a nice date and pay for it. He was letting me care for him in other ways.

My phone vibrated again. I finally peered down at it.

Tristan: How much is the membership?

Tristan: That’s the deciding factor.

Me: I’m not sure. I didn’t ask.

Tristan: I won’t let you keep spending money on me. I bet the membership is thousands.

If he meant six figures, he was probably right. If everyone could get into the club, it wouldn’t be as elite as it was. I didn’t bother to correct him.

Me: Let me do this for you. It’s a way for us to see Romeo in his element.

Tristan: Can’t I get a guest pass?

Me: It’s not a gym. It’s hot men with only a G-string on. Dex runs a tight ship.

Tristan: I hate the idea of you paying for me.

Me: Let me spoil you. How many years have you spent paying for others? It’s your turn to be cared for.

I hit low and deep, knowing exactly what I was doing. It was the truth too. Tristan had done a lot for his last ex. I wanted to wipe those memories away and show him what it meant to be in a good relationship where your partner wasn’t a piece of shit.

Tristan: Fine, but don’t make a habit of it.

I’d won this round and would hopefully win every one in the future when it came to giving Tristan anything he desired.
