“You couldn’t have known. Besides, that’s why we make a great team. I fill in where you can’t see and vice versa.”

He shakes his head in defeat. “I do not see how I fill in these areas for you.”

“Are you serious?” I’m more than a little stunned by that. “Alexi, you make sure we’re all taken care of at all times. You have the cleaning crew on a specific schedule that works around all of us. You never forget a meal that is perfectly balanced, and you come to bed every single night. Even when I sit on the couchdreading the dark, you pick me up and take me to bed while helping me forget about the bad. You do more than just fill in. You’re my husband. I didn’t marry you for some big show, I said yes because you are a piece of my soul I cannot live without.”

His jaw clenches, not wanting to believe me. I slam a fist down on the table, and his eyes shoot to meet mine.

“We don’t check out on each other, Lex. What can I do to take away that look in your eyes?”

“Maybe this is just me mourning,” he says, trying to use it as an excuse.

“No. Sorry. Not happening. This is you moping around. The Alexi I know doesn’t mope.”

“I am not moping. I just lost my father.”

“And you are allowed to feel grief, but that’s not what this is. I know you, Lex. Stop hiding and tell me what you fucking need!”

My voice grows louder, but sometimes, this is the only way we actually get through to each other. His hands fist his hair as he tries to take a breath, but it stutters out.

“Tell me!”

“I need you to let me put a tracker in you. I need to know where you are at all fucking times so nothing surprises us again. I need you to let me punish you for going behind my back. And dammit, Princess, I need you to help me see that we are not going to end up like my parents!”

The tracker thing surprises me; he hasn’t mentioned that once. My mouth opens and shuts a few times in shock. I’ve honestly been waiting for this conversation since I found out that Lev, Damien, and Alexi all have them now, as well as Ivan. But when it never came up, I was glad for it. Now I wish I had seen it for what it was. He was afraid to ask.

I mean, he should have been. I’ve been tagged twice now without my knowledge or consent. I’m pretty fucking sick of it, but this could have been a discussion.

“It cannot just be the bracelet my father gave you.” He says, standing up to pace the room. “I need to know that no one can remove it and take away that heat sensor. I need to be able to see your heart rate and know that wherever you are, you are alive. And yes, I understand this is not ahealthything to ask for, but I need to know you are safe as much as I need to breathe.”

“Okay,” I agree, understanding. He won’t use this to hurt me. I trust him. I trust Doc. And after everything that just happened, I believe that my uncle can get to me and my guys way too easily not to use every measure of protection we possibly can.

I might have a panic attack when they do it, and I will definitely need some ways to cope with knowing it’s there. But at least this time, I’ll know. It will have beenmychoice.

“Okay, what?” He throws his hands in the air, not understanding.

I get up and walk to him. My hands reach up to cup his face while his forehead wrinkles with confusion.

“Okay, I will let Doc put a tracker in me.” His eyes widen as I continue, stroking my thumb over his cheek while his hands hold onto my wrists. “Okay, you can punish me. Okay, I promise to show you how strong the four of us are together. We will not end up like your parents.”

His eyes close and his shoulders deflate. The tension and stress he had been carrying for the past thirty six hours seems to fade in an instant. It’s just the two of us here, our hands holding onto each other like a prayer and our hearts finding a way to heal.

Leaning in, Alexi kisses my forehead.

“Thank you,” he breathes. How he can get away with so few words conveying so many emotions, I will never understand.

“I’m always here for you, Batman. That’s what this marriage is. All of us are always here.”

“I know.” He leans his forehead down to touch mine. “Could you do me a favor, Princess?”

“Anything, Daddy.”

He shudders and my pussy clenches at what his next command will be. His eyes darken as they rove my body, promising acts of evil I will gladly beg him for.

“Run.”

My whole body ignites in a fire of lust and determination. Without even putting my shoes on, I run right out the door and into the trees. Most of the needles and leaves have fallen, making my red and black top a beacon for the man on my heels.

So, I remove it while I’m running. Ripping my shirt over my head, I toss it up on a branch. I love leaving a trail for him to follow. Not daring to glance back, I hear the branch snap only a few feet behind me. I’m able to gain some yards on him though. Soon enough, I don’t hear anything.
