No one is going to ruin this.

“How do we get off the island?” Meeka, another student asks.

I tap the screen and enlarge the docks. “Four boats will pick us up here.”

The fires will be gone by this point, and a disposal crew will come onto the island to rid it of any other remains the fire left behind.”

They all nod in understanding as I talk about the path to get back home. Private jets are organized for the vast majority of them, while others we have coordinated getting them to airports.

With an army of over two hundred trained criminals, all having the upper hand on our enemy, I feel my confidence soar.

“Adrik likely has a team of two hundred and eighty men with him. I need snipers on the roofs here to prevent them from making it to shore.” I point to the docks, wanting to maintain that as a safe area.

“Should anything go wrong, cross the bridge to the racetracks then blow it. Those cliffs can’t be climbed. You’ll be safe there.”

Alexi stands up to discuss backup plans B and C as I watch. He’s thorough but also gives time for others to ask questions. He has come so far since we first met.

Damien pulls me into his lap and snuggles his face into my neck.

“You’re almost free, Little Shadow.”

Lev’s hand finds my leg and squeezes. He leans into both of us, whispering.

“We are going to wreck that pussy to celebrate, Lucky Charm.”

My body heats. As they hold me, I realize just how close we are to really being free and coming home. It’s surreal to think in just three days this will all be over.

I watch Adrik approach me, only a single gun in hand. He makes no attempt to raise it though. All he does is stare.

I assume it’s the drugs until he speaks.

“I did it, you know?”

The calmness in his voice catches me off guard, and I nearly stumble over my own two feet.

“You did what?” I ask, confused.

“Everything I sought out to do.”

He tosses his gun and takes a seat on the concrete, puzzling me further.

“I wanted to take over The Shades. That was my first plan. Your father didn’t like that, wanted something that brokered peace like your mother. They really were made for each other.”

He sighs and I sit down in front of him. Fire surrounds us, the smell of burning flesh strong in the air, but my uncle talks as if we are sitting in his office having a coffee after dinner.

“My next goal was to remove Boris from leadership.”

“He’s alive, you know?”

He nods. “Yeah, I figured. Rostya got too lucky there. You knew though, didn’t you?”

I incline my head. I know my uncle better than myself some days and that scares the shit out of me.

“The third and final goal was to create a weapon so powerful, everyone would fall at its feet. Although, I had hoped they would fall at our feet together one day.”

I shake my head, rolling my eyes.

“Yeah, well maybe if you didn’t murder my parents, had me raped, tortured, and broken for your amusement, used me to pay off your debts, drugged me and tried to kill my husbands, we could have found a way to work together.”
