He carefully places me on my feet.

“What made you think that was a good decision?”

I roll my eyes as I look around the room for something else to stand on while trying to hold the frame so he can’t see it. The second he realizes what I’m doing, he snatches the picture from my hands.

“Hey,” I huff. “That was supposed to be a surprise.”

The corner of his lip lifts and his eyes soften.

“I am surprised. What is this about?”

I yank the frame from his hands. “It’s about me preserving the one time you didn’t have an attitude with me.”

I rile him up intentionally, knowing that’s not true, but loving how he pushes my buttons when we bicker like an old married couple.

He grabs my arm as I try to find another spot on the wall to hang it. We’ve been filling the room with every happy moment that we can, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite places in the house. When I need a reset, I’ll sit on the bed and look around at our story in the frames.

“You love my attitude. Now, wait here while I grab you a ladder out of the closet. And stop climbing on furniture. I would have thought you had learned your lesson after you and Damien flipped the couch last week wrestling.”

I follow him. He knows better than to order me around like a dog.

“First of all, that is nowhere near the same situation. And second, I stand by the fact that the couch breaking was all Damien.”

He chuckles as he grabs what he’s looking for, then heads back into the room. His forearms strain as he carries the ladder to where I was standing and moves the chair out of the way. I know he says something, but my eyes won’t budge from his arms flexing.

“Princess,” Alexi growls, snapping me out of my fantasy.

“Yes?”

Alexi rolls his eyes, knowing exactly what just happened. He takes the hammer and nail from me along with the frame, then climbs up the ladder.

“The sooner you tell me where you want this, the sooner I can bend you over the bed and fuck your greedy little cunt.”

I squeeze my legs together and bite my lip.

“Yes, Daddy.”

???

The guys help get Damien settled onto the couch, a bag of ice firmly in hand. He’s acting like such a baby, and I know it’s only because he loves the attention. But part of me doesn’t like that he’s hurting because of me.

I grab him one of his favorite sodas from the fridge. Alexi hardly ever stocks soda in the house because he says it’s liquid cancer. I’m not a fan of it, but Damien loves the stuff. I hand it to him on the couch, hesitant to get close.

“Thanks, Little Shadow.”

He must notice my nervousness, even though I try to ignore it.

“Hey, what’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” I say quickly, grabbing a blanket to curl up on the other side of the couch.

“Don’t lie to me or I will call Daddy Lex in here to punish you.”

As much fun as that would be. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Doc said you need to rest.”

He scoffs, waving a hand in the air as if to dismiss that idea. “And when have I ever listened to doctors?”

“Maybe you should start,” I quip, making myself comfortable.
