The server scrambled to her feet and bolted for the dining room.

Myrtle let the world resume around them. The high-speed conversation between souls had taken place within three heartbeats.

Denith looked at the door to the dining room that was swinging softly. “What happened?”

“She wanted you, was mad that I could have you, so she was going to make the rest of the meal unpleasant for me until I got the idea that I wasn’t wanted here.”

He frowned. “Are you okay?”

“Sort of. I mean, I am upset that I ruined dinner.”

“It isn’t ruined, just delayed. I am just having atake your mate to workday. You are welcome to come in anytime during working hours. I will make you a fancy corndog anytime you want.” He bent and kissed her while the food was still being prepped and service folk were swirling past them.

When he lifted his head, she licked her lips. “Is that a euphemism?”

“Absolutely not.” He grinned. “Ready to actually have dinner? I am eager to show off.”

“Can you do me a huge favour and hand me mine? It will set my mind at ease.”

He chuckled. “I am sure Teyval will set you on his lap and feed you if you ask.”

“If I can’t manage this on my own, I will just wait until I am home.” She grumped. “I can feed myself. I just hate being watched.”

“We watch you in the evening.” He cocked his head as if he didn’t understand, and he probably didn’t. He was wired for group activities.

“Uh, yeah. That is different somehow. It is something thatwedo, and eating is different.” She shrugged. “At home, it is just fuel. Eating out is an event, and I don’t do it often.”

He pulled her tight to him, and she blushed. “I like eating out, but eating in is more fun.”

She glanced over, and the cooks and workers were grinning. She smacked his shoulder. “You used your outside voice.”

He kissed her again and stroked her cheek. “Have a seat, and let me do my thing.”

“You get to use that once per day. That’s it.”

He kissed her forehead. “Back into the cage for you, missy.”

She sighed and returned to her seat. Teyval snagged her and pulled her onto his lap. “Are you all right?”

Myrtle sighed. “I am not used to going out. I am less used to being considered a threat to someone’s crush.”

Teyval cuddled her close like he did at home. She asked, “How was work?”

“Good. They would like you to come with me to the set.”

“What? Why?”

“The casting director is also being used on the Patchwork Pixie movie, and I get to be the troll prince.”

Byron chuckled. “That’s not much of a stretch.”

Teyval grinned and held her close. “Come on, you can practice being my pixie. The actresses they have trying out for the part are a little hesitant to get close.”

Wryly, she looked at him and said, “Whatever for? You are just a big teddy bear.”

He nuzzled her ear. “Only for you.”

Toros cleared his throat. “To be frank, Teyval has a formidable reputation. And he is very scary.”
