Chapter Two

Nisha gasped when she walked in. Myrtle hadn’t managed to cram herself back to five-foot-four. “Sorry. Don’t yell. I am frustrated enough sliding my seat back in the car.”

Nisha blinked. “You are... tall.”

“Yeah. I am. An Elite omega. That is why those assholes are so interested in me. They don’t like my kind and want to take me apart. That includes learning how to break one.”

“Shit. Right, so dodge the hospital’s calls.”

“Tell them that I am too weak to move but refusing treatment. I am insisting I will be better in a few days.”

“That is really specific.”

“They will have to let me stay here without being attended. I am going in voluntarily, but now that I know they are just trying to harvest information for the stronghold, I am done playing.”

Nisha smiled. “You only act this decisive when you are writing.”

“Yup. I have a project, and I have a personal deadline, so check on me and feed me at regular intervals.”

Nisha grinned. “Aside from the change in appearance, you sound like you again.” She swatted Myrtle on the butt. “Get in there, and do your thing.”

Myrtle grinned and headed for her laptop. Pixies didn’t write their own books, after all.

Myrtle sat in the corner of the boardroom while Ruby explained the project to all persons and introduced her as the writer of the script and novel.

It had been ten days since she met Ruby, and the charming woman had already approved the first third of the book and first ten pages of the screenplay.

She sat huddled on a chair in the corner; her hood pulled forward to cover her rather pointed ears. Myrtle had gotten herself smaller, but she still looked elfy.

When they finished the last of the details, she waited until everyone filed out then crept out, making sure not to touch anyone. There had been a few Elite omegas in the room, and she didn’t want to drain them accidentally.

Everyone else had made it down in the elevator. When she swayed, Ruby took her hand, and she felt markedly better when she stepped out on the main floor.

She scuttled back to her apartment and got back to work.

Three weeks later, she sat with Ruby, Marshall, and Ark in Ark’s office. The belated ghost-writing agreement was signed, and all documents were handed over.

Ruby was dazed. “How did you do this so fast?”

“I write for a living, and if there is no product, there is no living. This was just so that I could live on a little in the minds of those who have the book.” She folded her hands into the sweatshirt and sighed. “So, that’s that.”

Ruby looked at her. “What are you going to do now?”

“Write some more erotica and then check on my fading. Now that the project is done, it is going to pick up steam.”

Marshall cleared his throat. “We may have found your other mate. He’s not in good shape either. If you are willing to come with us to Keres’ home to meet her mates, Achilles has located an option for you.”

“A what?”

“An option. Most of us are keyed to seek out a specific omega, but less than one percent of us aren’t focused. Achilles has found two to help heal the wound that the other created.”

“What about my third? Can they heal him, too?”

Marshall smiled. “That will be up to you. Ready to find out?”

She pulled a hand out of the front pocket of her sweatshirt. It was translucent pearl, and she could see through her own skin. “I don’t think I can wait any more. Who’s driving?”

Ruby pointed at Marshall. “Are we ready?”
