“Crap, I’m seeing a ghost. I did drink way too much last night,” he says when I come up to his desk where Enzo sits with a big bottle of water in front of him and some painkillers on a side.

I snatch the box along with water and pop one myself.

“Nope, no ghost, although I’d do just about anything to become one right now and not be here.”

“Lexi? What are you doing here? And before you answer, just know I am not drinking with you ever again. I simply won’t survive it.” Enzo winces at the sound of his own voice.

My new friend is a lightweight. “Don’t worry, we will build up your tolerance, my dear Enzo, because there is no way in fuck I’ll survive this month without drinking, and no, I won’t drink alone like a bloody alcoholic. So, buckle up.”

He looks at me with half-closed eyes, mouth slightly parted, and head leaning heavily on his hand, holding up its weight.

“Now, repeat everything but slowly and quietly this time.”

I exhale and drop into the seat by his desk, recounting this morning’s events to him.

“Wait, we have that rule? I never knew about it.” My eyes snap up to him.

“So, he did make it up?”

“I’m not sure, but maybe go check with HR?” I kiss Enzo’s head, making him wince again, and hurry away, only to be stopped by the gorgeous brute standing in my way.

“Where the hell have you been?” Landon asks me with arms crossed in front of his chest.

God, thank you for my stellar poker face, or else he would see what he does to me every time I see that infuriating but hot-as-sin face.

I check my watch and point it to him. “The workday hasn’t started yet, so I’m not obligated to answer that. Now, move. I have a few minutes left, and I’d like to see HR,” I say and try to sidestep him, but he blocks my way again.

Seriously?

“First of all,” Landon picks up one finger in front of my face. “There is no need to see HR. I forwarded the copy of your contract to your email so; you can check the one-month rule there.” The asshole smirks. “Secondly, your workday starts when I say it starts, and I say seven AM. However, because I am thebest boss out there, I’ll let it slide today and won’t punish you too harshly. One blow job will do.”

“How about one ‘fuck you’?”

Landon is trying really hard to fight off his smile. “Kitten, I’m glad you said that.” He steps in closer to me. “I thought it would take me a lot longer to persuade you.”

“You do realize this is the epitome of sexual harassment, right?”

“Of you harassing me?” The asshole asks and smirks. I simply click my tongue and sit behind my desk.

I will not give him the pleasure of seeing me distraught or railed up. And obviously, it worked because he looked displeased that I didn’t have a snarky comeback.

“Come into my office Miss Ellis.”

“Why?”

“It’s not your job to ask questions. Come in, and I’ll tell you. Now,” he snaps at me.

Touchy…

One thing I have already learned about Landon Locke is that he always, and I mean always, must be in control. Something I am determined to take away from him.

Seriously, who am I?

I think this demon is affecting my brain too much already. I’m the one who avoids conflict, not stirs it up. At least, I did before, especially with asshole men in my life.

I roll my eyes but get up and follow him. Landon’s office is a dream come true. The last time I was here, I didn’t get a good look since he stunned me with his stupid, inappropriate comments, but today I got a chance to see the wall of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking busy, grey New York. Chocolate dark wood flooring in matte finish. There is a huge, crisp glass desk with black leather chairs around it and a modern, sleekblack leather couch in the corner. The walls are decorated with the most-sold magazine covers and awards.

Landon motions for me to sit on one of the leather chairs, and I slip on it with a small, barely audible moan. It’s very comfortable. Heavenly. I could sit here all day.
