Shit, I really don’t have anything to use against her.

Also a fucking first in my life. Maybe I should just fire her and cut my losses before my life goes up in flames. Because this girl can certainly start a wildfire that wipes everything on its way.

“Why did you let me in then?” I keep asking her because, apparently, I’m an arsonist, and I love fires.

Lexi pauses for a millisecond as if she’s asking herself the same question. “I didn’t want Julius to kill you and go to jail. My best friend would be devastated.”

“So, you care about me…Interesting…”

“Yeah, no, I’m quite certain I just said I care about my best friend and her boyfriend. Not you.”

“That’s not what I heard. You didn’t want him to kill me, so you care about me.”

“You are full of yourself, Mr. Locke. I couldn’t give a damn about you. I’m not one of your appointments.” I suppress a devilish grin; this is getting good.

“What a pleasant surprise. You are jealous on top of caring.”

Lexi looks downright murderous right now. “You better shut up if you want to eat tonight. And I’m not jealous. What’s there to be jealous of? Meaningless sex? No feelings? Been there, done that. So, no thanks.” Lexi bites her lip as if scolding herself for saying too much. And I sure as hell picked up on every word and stored it in my mind.

“Been there, done that? Huh?” She closes her eyes, muttering something to herself, and then goes back to cooking, pretending she didn’t hear me. “I didn’t peg you for the no-strings-attached kind of girl.”

“Then, why the fuck are you bugging me? Isn’t that what you want from me?” Her bluntness does not take me by surprise. I’ve grown to love her brutal honesty. It’s refreshing, and I’ve never had anyone but lying snakes surround me.

Them snakes like to make their nests all over me. Lexi is not afraid to say what she wants, and I might love that a little too much.

“Maybe it is, maybe it’s not,” I keep playing with her.

“Never gonna happen, Landon. So might as well drop it and fire me.” Another thing I might love a little too much. My name on her lips.

And that immediately gives my dick lovely ideas. Hold on, buddy; it will be a while with this one.

I want to say something else, but that daredevil biker and his girlfriend come back inside. Yes, that’s precisely what he is, dressed in his leather jacket, dark jeans, and a scowl on his face. I won’t admit it, but I like this guy. He cares about Lexi. And he doesn’t give a shit about shit.

My kinda guy.

Well, except for the little brunette snuggled by his side. If he cares about Lexi, he is straight-up obsessed with his little girlfriend.

Amusing…

“You’re still here.” He doesn’t ask, just states the fact in the most bored voice.

“Might as well get used to my company,” I tell him, and all three sets of eyes descend on me.

“There will be no getting used to you. Only because I allowed you to come in for one dinner means absolutely nothing,” Lexi snaps back.

“Keep telling yourself that, Kitten.” That earns me a glare from Lexi and a hidden laugh from her girlfriend.

I got up from the chair I was occupying and approached the other girl. “I don’t think we were introduced. Despite the lovely nickname Lexi gave me, I’d prefer to go by Landon,” I say and extend my hand toward the girl, which gets immediately slapped away by Julius.

“Don’t even think about it and take your paws away from my girl,” he threatens me.

“Jesus, I just wanted to know her name. May I?”

“It’s Kate,” the girl says. “Well, Katerina Minaev, but only Jules calls me that. So, just Kate.” He drapes a protective arm around her slender shoulders and watches me like a lionprotecting his prey. And she looks back at him like she’s going to offer herself as his willing meal right here and now.

These two have some serious issues. But what does it say about me if, right now, there is nothing I want more than for Lexi to look at me like that.

Delusional, that’s what it means…
