Okay, fine, he is the CEO from hell with broad, muscular shoulders strained in that tailored Armani suit that does nothing but highlights his sculpted forearms, athletic thighs, and trim waist. He has rich, dark hair where my fingers could get lost and grey as steel eyes in which I would not mind drowning. His predatory smile, surrounded by neat and clean stubble, has nearly melted me into tiny, tiny molecules, and his scent made me dizzy. And the chiseled jawline and sharp angles of his face did nothing to help the situation. Landon smells rich and dark, like gunpowder and scotch, and I might have liked it a bit too much, but none of that gives him a right to talk to me like that!

None of it.

Oh, and that touch? When he took my hand for a shake, my knees grew weak and shaky, threatening to bend and kneel right in front of him. Calloused? No, no such thing. This man was as smooth as they come.

I might find his body hot, and maybe just maybe, I indulged myself in a brief fantasy of what his fingers could do to me, but that attitude, that arrogant character, is the biggest, fattest red flag in human history.

And trust me, if anyone is an expert in them red flags, it’s me.

Despite his last comment about us having fun together, I have a different opinion, and that includes me staying away as far as possible from his floor until he finds a new toy to harass.

And oh my goodness, he doesn’t even care that that was technically sexual harassment.

The bastard was smirking the whole time and practically undressing me the second I walked in through the door and stepped into his dark lair.

To imply that I only kept applying for this position to get in bed with him?

Out-freaking-rageous.

I stormed out of his office right after that, and I’m pretty sure everyone could see the steam coming out of me. Julie stood close by and gave me that same sympathetic eye as she did before leaving me alone with the Prince of Darkness and Mr. Inappropriate all in one bottle.

She rushes over to me and whispers quietly, “I’m so sorry, Lexi. I really am!”

“It’s okay, Julie. It’s not your fault our boss is a bastard. Wait? Why are you apologizing? Did you know what he was going to say to me?” She looks a bit uneasy, then takes me by my sleeve and drags us over to the other side of the hallway.

“Lexi, I don’t know how much you know about our boss, but he is different. He doesn’t care about anything or anyone and likes to have women fall at his feet. He makes them sign contracts, sort of like NDAs, and then sleeps with them until he grows tired of one and switches to the next.”

“Oh my God, he is sick. He needs help! How is this okay?” I shriek.

“Shhh, I know, trust me. So, please hide, stay away from him, and try to make yourself invisible. Don’t wear provocative clothes, and don’t come near this floor unless you absolutely must.”

“Trust me, I won’t! How is he allowed to keep his spot?”

“Despite his extracurricular activities, Landon is a freaking genius. He practically revived this place after the last CEO ran it into the grave. And he is really good with those who didn’t catch his eye. Unfortunately, you did.” Julie lets out a heavy breath. “So, I’m sorry!”

“It’s okay; I can take care of myself, and like you said, I’ll just stay away, and all will be good.”

She smiles at me, but there is no confidence behind it. She knows I’m screwed and being naïve about it.

Well fuck, I will not become one of his toys. I want this job but not at the price of my dignity.

“Anyway, can we continue, and you can tell me what exactly my duties are going to be?” She brightens up a little, and we make our way back downstairs to the middle floor where I’ll be working.

Julie had just brought me to my new cubicle when a young, black guy with nerdy glasses but slim black button-up and grey slacks runs toward us, nearly tripping on everyone in his way.

“Alexandra?” He asks me, trying to catch his breath. Clearly, he was running here.

“Um, yes, but it’s just Lexi.” He smiles a dazzling smile my way.

“Good to know, and nice to meet you. I’m Enzo, and we need to go. Now.” He grabs my hand and pulls me out of the chair I just sat in. My new chair.

“What’s going on?” Julie runs behind us, yelling.

“Where are you taking me, Enzo?”

“Congratulations, new girl, you just got a promotion!”

Julie looks faint. “Oh my God…”
